I worked at Fortress Investment Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Superior benefits (medical/dental/vision is all top-of-the-line), above average compensation, great name on your resume, possibility to be exposed to some very interesting things, and there are some very smart people employed there. Good short-term gig as a resume builder only.

    Cons

High turnover, certain groups are overrun with incompetent managers that were promoted solely based on tenure and not ability, very little growth and upward mobility, terrible work-life balance attributable to poor practices and poor organization, generally rude employees (probably because everybody is miserable), extremely political. As smart as some people are, there is a lot of short cutting driven by laziness. Terrible place to be for the long-term. If you can get the job, tough it out for a short time, and keep your mouth shut all the while, you can find a good gig at a small shop afterwards. Otherwise, STEER CLEAR.

I worked at Fortress Investment Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Looks good on resume, you'll work on very sophisticated deals, will learn a lot, and will make money.

    Cons

Be prepared to lose friends and spouses while working here, because you won't have time to spend with anyone else but your coworkers, who will likely be depressed and disinterested in anything but money at this phase in their lives, because this job might have already destroyed much of what makes life worth living.

    Advice to Management

None. High turnover keeps salaries low & profits high, per the company's mission. Paranoia continues to serve you, because there are bad people who work for you, and would probably like to destroy you were it not for the deal exposure and potential to earn something slightly higher than an investment banking career, but only if they're smart enough to obtain or create some information that could potentially blackmail those at the very top. You've succeeded in creating a culture of fear, power, betrayal, nepotism & money, while avoiding giving back to the community in any meaningful way. Congratulations, you're the epitome of Machievellian capitalism, kind of like the Vatican of hedge funds. I'm guessing you'd actually be proud of yourself reading this, because of how you romanticize the myth of the industrialists capitalists of generations past, who felt they owed nothing to the common good aside from demonstrating how to become wealthy. A review like this very likely inflates your ego as someone who thrives on a shallow form of monetary power, no matter what the cost to humanity. Your investors probably like it too, actually, so keep up the good work.

    Pros

The benefits are great, and the pay isn't bad.

    Cons

You will never get promoted and your ideas will be ignored. No one in a position to care about your career does anything to help further you along. HR department is unproductive for employees.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to mid management. They are pouring poison on the fruit vine.

I have been working at Fortress Investment Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Reputable well diversified hedge fund and the pay is pretty good. Working hours are decent, exposure to various credit investments.

    Cons

Poor management and governance. No autonomy or scope for career growth. Extreme micromanagement and red tape. No appreciation for one's work. No morale boosting.

    Advice to Management

Trust your team to be responsible enough to complete the given task by the deadline, instead of sending constant annoying reminders and follow ups. Appreciate and recognize good work which boosts morale.
