I worked at Foursquare as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an intern, I always felt my opinion was heard and valued. Foursquare has a vibrant culture and office space to match. It's a fun experience to work in a company where everyone is using the consumer apps on a regular basis.

Free lunch Tuesdays and Thursdays, ridiculously stocked snack corner, and beer/wine on tap. Very transparent work environment. Information is not silo-ed or hidden from the entirety of the company, so everyone can provide input at Tuesday team meetings.

Unfortunately, the Support Intern role does not include a full-time job opportunity as the role is constantly rotating with new interns. But I still recommend current students/new grads apply, because you'll meet great people and, hopefully, awesome connections!

    Cons

It would be great if Foursquare offered a full-time offer for high-performing interns within this position.

    Advice to Management

Clearly define Foursquare's business and OKRs. Marketing and branding sometimes felt inconsistent internally. Are you a utilitarian app, a gaming app, or providing location-based marketing solutions?

I worked at Foursquare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Never has so much fun. So many fun company events, networking functions, free perks almost constantly and extremely transparent with company meetings and really thorough onboarding. Best days are demo days!

    Cons

There's definitely a HUGE divide between product and sales. Feels like the a completely different world. Also, not a lot of cross team mingling. Engineers stick to themselves. Design, Support and Marketing seem the most approachable and social, while Sales side feels extremely cliquey and disparate from rest of the company.

    Advice to Management

Try to be more active getting to know members of all teams.

    Pros

Flat org and they really value everyone's opinion. I loved working there.

    Cons

The hole from upstairs and the noise from above.

I worked at Foursquare as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Truly an amazing place to work. The leadership team is competent and inspiring; the people are talented, smart, and creative; and the office culture is unparalleled.

    Cons

There really aren't any company-wide flaws I can think of. Sure, there a bones to pick here and there with various people you might work with, but nothing that is endemic to the organization.

    Advice to Management

Keep working to return value to the employees who've worked so hard to make the company what it is now, and continue to do out of love and belief in the product.

I worked at Foursquare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work with a very smart group of folks. Foursquare has a very special company culture that you have to work here to feel it. Work/life balance. People in general are very friendly and resourceful. Foursquare is a truly one of the best NY-based startups.

    Cons

People outside think the company is irrelevant nowadays which is not true. The management or leadership team definitely need to figure out how to move the company to the right direction. It had amazing people and products potential, but somehow it got screwed up over time. It hard to say app splitting is a successful strategy.

    Advice to Management

Product Vision (no matter it is about apps or about the platform)

So many brilliant people to learn from. Very sociable atmosphere. Free food.

    Cons

Coming from a 20 person company, it's hard for me to actually know all 200 employees here.

    Pros

Great work-life balance, amazing people, support from above and below and both sides.

    Cons

I really can't come up with any. There's a lot of snacks and sometimes it's hard to lose weight because they're all up in your face.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.
