I have been working at Fox Chase Cancer Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Highly collaborative, helpful facilities, excellent daycare for children of employees, open dialogue between clinicians and researchers, great mentoring for trainees and young faculty

    Cons

A lot of red tape for approval of equipment maintenance contracts, difficult ordering system, no retirement matching for trainees, campus far from Center City

    Advice to Management

Please reduce red tape and offer trainees retirement benefits. Health care benefits are excellent, but please modify maternity leave policies so that sick/vacation/personal time is not exhausted

    Pros

Prestige, nice people, crown jewel of a big health system , helping people in need, life saving, not sure why I have to continue writing more, this is becoming annoying

    Advice to Management

    Hire younger management professional

I have been working at Fox Chase Cancer Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent place to come to work everyday. Healthy work environment and because the research and healthcare are integrated it is a very fulfilling job. Overall I'd give it 5 stars if the salaries weren't so low. Excellent benefits packages and a tuition remission program through Temple University that cannot be beat.

    Cons

low salary. getting a substantial raise is hard to do at this place as it is a non-profit and most research is grant funded.

I have been working at Fox Chase Cancer Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Team approach & collaboration between different disciplines. Compassionate staff (mostly). Approachable doctors. Employees on the front line are friendly and kind to each other.

    Cons

Extremely poor communication by dept manager to staff. Talks badly about employees to other co-workers. Extremely difficult to get time off approved due to understaffing, however manager takes off unscheduled days frequently. Oncology is an emotionally challenging setting to work in at times. Getting to use much needed vacation/personal time is very difficult at times.

    Advice to Management

Department managers need to be held accountable by Directors that actually work on campus, not at Jeanes. Senior Leadership rounding may come away with better insight to employee concerns, if the manager was not sitting in on the rounds with the employees. Keep being approachable, rounding & having town hall meetings!
