I worked at Foxtons full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Some people were amazing. It sometimes can be a fun environment.

    Cons

The hours were over 60-65hours a week with a shockingly low basic salary. You can make good money with commission but not worth the hours you put in. It worked out to be below minimum wage. A very micro managed environment. Felt like I was back at school.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the hours of work just like your competitors and ease up on the micromanagemt. Then people might think about staying.

I have been working at Foxtons full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Having been at Foxtons for coming up to 3 years I can confirm that the company is fast paced, energetic and great fun. As a Lettings Negotiator, the company prides itself on meritocracy so no matter who you are or where you come from everyone starts the job on the same level which is one of the reasons why the company attracts a diverse range of people and makes the workplace so enjoyable. The commission structure has...

    Cons

11-12 hour working days which can take some time to adjust to and working Saturdays twice a month. However, you enjoy your full weekend off even more! The job is typically based on commission although you can just stay on a basic salary with no commission. Either way, commission isn’t for everyone but is worth it if you can hack it!

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Increase the basic salary - £10,000 is not enough. Also increase the basic salary for rare negotiators and senior negotiators to make it more of a promotion.

I worked at Foxtons full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

For me the whole experience was mind-blowing. I was enthusiastic, motivated and loved the company from the first day there. The training is intense but interactive and fun. I was blessed with an amazing manager that made every day entertaining but still kept us working hard. The car, targets, office nights out, quarterlies, Christmas parties are a sweet reward for working hard so you get to socialise within the company...

    Cons

Unfortunately I had to leave because the basic salary was too low for me to be able to pay my outgoings in a very tough market where deals don't come easy. Working hours are way too long for the salary you're getting.

    Advice to Management

Work-Life balance is important to keep your sanity. Reduce the hours. Finishing at 19 instead of 20 will help you retain people. Or increase the salaries if you expect people to work until 20:00. There has to be a compromise from your side towards your staff if you want people to stay. Money, Hrs or maybe a bit of both ? Miss working there, wish you all the best in the future.

    I worked at Foxtons

    Pros

Free car (minus paying tax for it) and petrol card to use inside and outside of work. Meet some interesting characters and have some really fun times. Gain a lot of experience dealing with people of all levels and get to see some lovely properties.

    Cons

10k basic salary. This agent is struggling due to their inability to drop/negotiate on fees. I would say the level of opportunity to make money has drastically declined over the 2.5 years I was there, there is a lot more pressure and targets to meet now. It is getting tougher and tougher. Core hours are 8am-8pm. You need to get into a central London office or if not an...

    Pros

You'll meet some great people along the way You'll have something appealing to put on your CV by way of experience, it's kind of viewed as the holy grail of estate agency because if you cut it here, you can cut it anywhere else Training is thorough and will give you the introductory blueprint for estate agency You will learn to be disciplined - if you're into all that

    Cons

Regimented structure to your day, you've got to work in accordance to how they set the day up: 9-12 Call out - make a minimum of 60 calls to leads 12-2 Viewings 2-4 Deal chasing 4-8 Viewings Press REPEAT for 5/6 days per week, do that for 2.5 years and then see what happens. Advice to Management

Offer some flexibility to staff rather than being this authoritarian Show some empathy to staff and their feelings Increase the basic salary as it's a joke to see that pay check after the hours one puts in to see 700 quid. Some months, due to external forces (solicitors, brokers, buyers, sellers) your deal(s) doesn't go over the line through no fault of your own - acknowledge it and sort it out
