I have been working at Foxtons full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Joined the company as a fresh grad 14 years ago with no experience with a journalism degree having been told by other companies to go and get more experience. Those same companies are now keen for the skills that Foxtons have given me. If you are ambitious and possess a great career focus this company ticks all the boxes. Where other companies want their next hire to already have the experience and skills required for...

    Cons

Wouldn't be here after 14 years if there were any significant enough cons that weren't part and parcel of being an ambitious individual that is prepared to make a few sacrifices in order to achieve career and personal success.

    Advice to Management

Nothing that comes to mind that requires any specific acknowledgment for change

I worked at Foxtons full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Free car with fuel allowance Get to meet great people How easy it is to contact your higher ups When you drop to your base salary from £22k per annum to £10k per annum you receive a 10% commission so if you work hard potential to earn a lot of money.

    Cons

12 hour days. No social life Don't really get a lunch break, just have to grab a sandwich in between viewings. Ruthless working environment, colleagues just care about their commission and will do anything to do you over so they get their commission. All your manager really cares about is if you at making any deals.

    Advice to Management

Show some respect to your staff, understand their situation when they are having problems. Don't decide to call the area director for every problem you have with your staff before even speaking to your staff to understand the situation. You say at the interview you will be placed in the nearest branch from home but end up placing them miles away from home and expect to drive the company car during traffic hours in the...

I worked at Foxtons full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

You'll meet some great people along the way You'll have something appealing to put on your CV by way of experience, it's kind of viewed as the holy grail of estate agency because if you cut it here, you can cut it anywhere else Training is thorough and will give you the introductory blueprint for estate agency You will learn to be disciplined - if you're into all that

    Cons

Regimented structure to your day, you've got to work in accordance to how they set the day up: 9-12 Call out - make a minimum of 60 calls to leads 12-2 Viewings 2-4 Deal chasing 4-8 Viewings Press REPEAT for 5/6 days per week, do that for 2.5 years and then see what happens. The repetitive nature is soul sapping. Colleague/ staff turnover extremely high. At the end of my 2.5 years, there were only 3 of us left standing...

    Advice to Management

Offer some flexibility to staff rather than being this authoritarian Show some empathy to staff and their feelings Increase the basic salary as it's a joke to see that pay check after the hours one puts in to see 700 quid. Some months, due to external forces (solicitors, brokers, buyers, sellers) your deal(s) doesn't go over the line through no fault of your own - acknowledge it and sort it out
