Undoubtedly the best place to work

Jul 7, 2022 - Business Immigration Analyst in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Fragomen Chicago Office has the best managers and co-workers. Every one around is helpful, warm and positive. There is always people to reach out to if you need help. They make you feel valued. When I started there was an entire week of Training and the Senior Associate personally helped me get through the process. No micro-management, they just let you know whatever is important and trust your judgement. Peace of Mind : The margin of error is very low, since each petition is reviewed multiple times. Even if you err, they are not blown out of proportion, rather treated as a learning experience, and they would help you rectify it. There is no stiff neck hierarchy and everyone is genuinely approachable. The volume of work is high but the team members are always around to help you in any possible way. Flexible hybrid schedule. Good PTO, Medical Benefits. It's an honor to be a part of Fragomen Chicago.

    Cons

Nothing I have encountered till date.

    Pros

You get the opportunity to learn many facets of the industry. You just have to speak up and advise you want to learn more. Leadership team does appreciate staff. Great benefits and PTO.

    Cons

Sometimes workload is excessive, but not all the time. Can be stressful, but what corporate employment isn’t?

    Great company culture

Nov 15, 2022 - Business Immigration Analyst in Washington, DC

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Fragomen had excellent company culture within my client and team. My supervisor was well-informed, patient, and encouraging, even though I had no prior immigration experience. The attorneys value hard-working people with a willingness to learn and take ownership of their own work. Overall, everybody was very kind and supportive. The pay was average for an entry-level legal position.

    Cons

Your satisfaction with your role at Fragomen depends on which team and which supervisor you are assigned to, but that is true of every large-scale corporate job. Some clients are very rude, and some supervisors are better than others.

    Overall great experience

    Pros

Very organized. The people are kind. Great diversity in the firm as well.

    Cons

Compensation always lacked and they need to do better. You mostly get cost of living raises despite all of your hard work. High caseload to manage. Overtime is expected and can easily cut into your work/life balance.

Not worth the pay and stress

Nov 29, 2022 - Business Immigration Analyst in Matawan, NJ
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

They can be given points for work culture and diversity. But in the midst of all the unforgiving work conditions there is no time to stop and enjoy that. Most people will be glued to their screens because there's no breathing room that'll allow for meaningful human interaction. In the end, anyone looking for a foot through the door can and should consider this place. BUT know that you will lose your peace and a piece of your mind. No work will ever be enough and compensation will never allow for financial independence. Watch out for yourself and other kind individuals that management will and is brutal too. There's a reason the turnover rate is high. I've seen people fired during covid for not feeling well or simple family emergencies. Good luck get that name on your resume and DIP.

    Cons

Pay is sub-par and there is no work-life balance. Training esp if you have no background/experience in business immigration can be great, but that's the only highlight . The only other highlight can be genuine coworkers because they know all too well how things work. You survive together. Management is comfortable with their titles and pay. SO they will rarely acknowledge your work and at most times you'll only really hear from them is when you mess up or they have critique. In my employment I never once applauded for any work, not even simple words of encouragement from any senior or my own manager. Mobility is hard and even if you do move up, the title may feel nice, but the raise would be 10K at most and that's me being generous. Workload is prepped and prepared for you before you even get to start and get your footing. It IS high volume and stressful especially when they hire fresh grads or people new to the field. Managers believe that micromanaging is the best way to counter this especially when they set unrealistic expectations with FNs (foreign nationals) or their mobility contact from the company. Overtime is common and widely expected. Managers monitor every move like you are a hourly employee and IM constantly. The most enjoyable part of the job were the kind individuals you connect with and the role you play in their immigration process being less jarring. But that's about it. Most days I remember not being able to go to sleep peacefully the night before work because of the stress, never-ending workload and seniors targeting every move I made.

Such a nice place to work

    Aug 15, 2022 - Senior Paralegal
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

I currently work remotely for one of the offices in California. Honestly this job has been so great. I've worked many jobs across the Immigration Law spectrum, from Immigration Court (Asylum/Detainees) to Entertainment Immigration Law (O-1, P-1, EB-1, etc.) and this job is teaching me PERM. I enjoy the work flow and the system is efficient. Most firms lack the resources to execute the work well, but Fragomen has everything you need to be great and not overwhelmed within your job. If you aren't exposed to the Immigration sphere and the workload, I understand how it might feel overwhelming but if you ask for help and questions you should be able to learn so much and keep up.

    Cons

One of the cons for this positon is that you might be asked to step in for a lower level paralegal because of the lack of understanding they can sometimes have. It is okay but it can sometimes add to your caseload.

    team-dependent experience

    Sep 12, 2022 - Associate

    Business Outlook

    Pros

the work is not that complicated tbh - paralegal or ppl w/out a legal education can do it and the job a lot of times is atomated, we have templates for stuff. However, immigration as a whole is very complicated, there is a learning curve to understand this area but sometimes the day to day work can feel like doing the work of a paralegal

    Cons

i have been on teams that do not take the time to mentor their interns/new associates. also, the firm can rotate you a lot from team to team. I have had bad experience w lack of mentorship. It seems like other attorneys are just doing their work and dont want to take the time to do anything else (e.g. mentor other) and once you are an associate more senior associates are the same. lack of mentorship/guidance in certain teams would be the biggest con
