I worked at Framingham State College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great work environment
    Strong benefits
Most employees have long tenure/low turnover
An entrepreneurial environment for new ideas (as long as they don't cost too much)

    Cons

    Tight budget
Union leadership is impossible to get in contact with and is unwilling to help on issues - was there for four years without an election for representation
Impossible to move up or get promoted or get merit-based pay increase

    Advice to Management

In a state institution and union environment, it's difficult to institute pay raises or promotions. Try to find other ways to encourage top talent and rising stars to stay with FSU.

    Pros

An opportunity to work a lot of hours, easy to get homework done, easy work

    Cons

Impossible to get shifts covered, strict policies, affects social life negatively

There needs to be a way to request days off and get them covered in an emergency without being penalized

I have been working at Framingham State College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent hourly rate, good teachers, many courses during the day, evenings and Saturdays.

    Cons

Only part-time positions available on a contract basis. All contracts are based on enrollment, so even if you are hired to teach a course, it may not run if under-enrolled.
