I have been working at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time

    Pros

No two days are the same, work is challenging and clients are top tier. Some of the smartest people in the industry working on the most interesting problems.

Supportive management team who are honestly concerned about your growth, development and personal well-being.

    Cons

Demanding pace of work and travel can take it's toll

    Advice to Management

Develop a formalized recruitment process to bring in cohorts of junior staff each year.

I worked at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time

    Pros

Smartest people, who work hard and really care about doing a good job
    Flexibility, very few micro-managers
Ability to craft custom solutions for clients--not too much red tape
    Great clients
Service/sales commission that rewards you for taking on or selling
Good recent additions to senior management--but skeptical of how much influence they can have

    Cons

Terrible, vague, far-reaching, poorly written, and very frequently legally pursued non-compete (not correlated with cause)
Serious issues at the most senior level--including ethical concerns
Top-down decisions driven by ego and reputation and "connections," not quality of work
Bias toward sales team as the "talent," lack of respect for what individual service people bring to the table
Policy changes poorly executed and communicated
Assumption that no one can compete with what Magid offers
Misconception that basic market research tools and techniques are special/proprietary
Long-standing company mission completely focused on profit

    Advice to Management

Stop the fixation on the Magid name and history as the sole driver of your reputation. Care about the people, and find your moral compass. Stop suing or legally harassing so many of the people who leave. Stop spinning the story to suit your ego, and focus on the work. Stop blaming everyone for your missteps. Actively address unethical behavior.

I worked at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time

    Pros

I worked with some of the most brilliant people in the industry, on a range of projects from all sectors. Not a lot of supervision, so being a self-starter is a must. Very family-friendly and flexible, with a range of work styles depending on whom you ended up working with.

    Cons

Unfortunately, there was also not a lot of company cohesiveness or sense of shared goals. Communication from management was severely lacking, and when the layoffs came, it was dealt with haphazardly and callously.

    Advice to Management

I hope that communication has improved - if not, it seriously needs to be revisited. Talk to your employees. Learn about them. Have monthly meetings to discuss where the company is, what's new, what the shared goals are. Hire more people of color. Be transparent. Offer a route for growth and advancement.

    Pros

I have been working at Magid for almost a year and love it! It is a great environment with a lot of energy. Really smart people and a solid management team.

    Cons

Some turnover in the last few years, but new management team seems focused on growth and opportunities for employees to grow.

    Great clients.
    Smart and interesting colleagues.

    Cons

Expect to never talk to anyone outside of your group.
Management does not value in employees
    Dont trust management.
Diversity? Management thinks it is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

    Advice to Management

    Just replace yourself

I have been working at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really smart people. Smart researchers and news consultants. Although the TV News division is struggling, the Dallas office is doing amazing, ground breaking research in the package goods area.

    Cons

Scary and horrible place to work. Long time employees just disappear and you don't know why. Head of NY office-gone, Head of LA office - gone. Head of News division - gone. Memos from COO saying they cannot cover payroll and don't have the funds to hire new people. Not sure who wrote the other two recent reviews, but those do not reflect the feelings of the rank and file. It seems like the President, who is the son of the founder, does not care about the companies legacy or stellar reputation. This was once a great company of talented people and integrity. Now they send in the senior people to sell a project but then dump all the real work on the junior associates. High employee turnover and even higher rate of dissatisfied clients who only do business once with this company. I, along with many of my peers are looking to get out of this crazy place before my payroll check bounces.

    Advice to Management

Time to clean house and get a new management team. That's the only way to keep the talent that you have left.

I have been working at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time

    Pros

    - Really smart, self-driven colleagues who are always willing to help.
    - Interesting, varied work - get to work with leaders across industries, especially in media.
    - Trust and flexibility - prove yourself and you can work when/where/how you want, as long as you get great work done. No micromanagement.
    - Entrepreneurial environment with the stability of a successful, structured firm - a more flat organizational structure which enables you to have an impact on the organization - if you have ideas, your voice will be heard.

    Cons

    - A lot of these reviews mention the lack of management and growth support. Over the last six months, there has been a major re-org, including more investment in training and development, which seems to be in the works. More structured management has also been put in place.
    - In some cases, there's a lack of formal team structure working on projects. But lots of people who can help, you just need to be proactive and resourceful.

    Advice to Management

    - Keep up the recent momentum of training and development efforts
    - Continue to invest in your people

    Pros

Great opportunity for experienced professionals to do what they do without corporate obstacles. Client success really is the ultimate goal, and so long as you can deliver, you're allowed flexibility to get your job done.

    Cons

If you need a lot of structure and continual oversight, you may find yourself struggling here. The most successful employees are those who can solve problems and work well without substantial oversight.

    Pros

Work with brilliant people using innovative research methods in a grown-up environment. Fun projects, clients big and small.
Great place to be creative and learn and to make your own path. Flexible, as long as you get your work done.

    Cons

Little room for growth, except to gain experience and grow out of the company.
Not a great experience with management - questionable decisions and terrible communication. Little structure or training.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication. Keep support staff - they keep the cogs turning and the quality up, and keep the workhorses from burning out. Invest in your employees - they're your most valuable asset.

I have been working at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time

    Pros

Some people do interesting work, but the lack of sharing and transparency prevents one from learning what that work is.

    Cons

-Atrocious culture, where those most slimy and lacking in integrity are rewarded and promoted (even to most senior management) as long as they bring money in-it doesn't matter how they take advantage of others to get there.
-No training, no communication, no sense of community.
-They call themselves a consulting firm but they simply sell research methods

    Advice to Management

CEO should remove senior-most manager. But I think the company is too far gone to turn it around.
