I worked at Franklin University (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed providing academic counseling to community college students
Great position in higher ed for building relationships

    Cons

Pressure to generate enrollment, above and beyond the best interests of students.
Limitations in onsite course offerings, forcing students to take harder courses online.
Low graduation rates, were many who did not complete their degree.

    Advice to Management

    Use better communication style

    Pros

Great people and a fun place to work. The organization tends to care about each other and are devoted to offering the highest quality of education.

    Cons

If you are looking for advancement, then this is not a good place to work. There really is no room for advancement at the university.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

I can't think of any really other than the fact that you get paid. There are only a handful of employees that put in 40 hours a week and people take off a lot so if you're into the freedom of not having to work much, even when you're at work, then this is the place for you.

    Cons

    Minimal accountability
    Poisonous culture
    Lot's of down time

    Advice to Management

The only way you can change your culture is by eliminating what's making it toxic, and you know who you are. You need a legitimate PIP program and you need to take it seriously. And don't be scared to terminate people. You're obviously for-profit education so treat yourself like a real business if that's what you're going to be. There is no reason that a university that has community college acceptance policies should cost as much as Franklin does so reconsider your benefits and compensation structure. You are compensating a lot of employees handsomely yet getting very little in return. Do this for the sake of your employees and the integrity of the university. It's not fair.

    Cons

Cronyism in organization as a whole, but dev department rocks!
