I worked at Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Research based
    - Meet experienced researchers
    - Further education due to the head of the FOKUS is a professor working in TUB.
    - Amazing work place and Colleagues.

    Cons

    - Should be research oriented
    - Needs high concentration
    - If you are not in to research it is not a place I recommend.

    Pros

    good benefits, multinational, well structured

    Cons

bad management, employment and promotions are based on favoritism and personal relationships

    Pros

Great cause, great people. Multicultural environment

    Cons

Upper management does not have strategic vision. Massive layoffs happen every few year to patch the holes in the budget. meanwhile, they spent money on ridiculous things. The way upper management handles things just cries out loud for a law suit... sad.

    Advice to Management

Save your face and walk away.

    Pros

This is the largest german research organization. They are making really good stuff, and leading lots of Innovation in the technical forefront.

    Cons

But the culture for the company is not clear. The management is lacking of experience to manage a multi-national organization in an efficient way.

    Pros

    - I am a college student who works at Fraunhofer part time during the school year and full time during the summer. They are great at working with my busy school schedule. They know that being successful in my classes is more important than working during the fall and spring semesters. That is very nice because it gives me the ability to work less on a week where I might have stressful exams or something along those lines.
    - The research they do is very interesting.
    - For the most part, the people are very friendly.

    Cons

    - I'm American, and the vast majority of people who work with me are from Germany (I work at one of the USA centers). That honestly is not a con for me, as I like all of them and enjoy learning more about what life is like in Germany, but it might be a con for some people.
    - Pay could be slightly better, but it's not bad

    Advice to Management

Consider future sponsorship of international researchers/fellows under available STEM work extension

    Pros

Highly organized research fellow program, opportunities to work on exciting projects with diverse groups, exposure to a broad range of partnering organizations.

    Cons

Feels like research fellows are a commodity, sometimes to a point where it was insulting. Stipend is low for Boston area - based on the cost of living.

I have been working at Fraunhofer Gesellschaft full-time

    Pros

work on sustainable energy is exciting. There's not much going on, so work-life balance is easy.

    Cons

It's surprising how misdirected the place is. The management skills don't match up to their roles and its hard to believe Fraunhofer couldn't find some more qualified people in Boston for this.

    Advice to Management

Rethink whether what you're doing is working. Maybe hire a management consultant to help.
