I worked at Fred Meyer full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really exposes you to a variety of people, teaching you how to handle a lot of different customer situation if you wish to further a career in retail/ customer service.

    Cons

Poorly managed, and very micro managed in some departments, like produce. Like, we're just stocking produce, why overthink it?

    Advice to Management

Relax, and don't treat employees like children or like these people are below you.

    Pros

Great Meat Manager, always helpful and happy, great people that work hard there, I have a great staff too! Have great benefits too. Lot of new stuff to learn all at once.

    Cons

Some of the management, not very friendly, got yell at on the floor, need to talk to employees in back, so customers don't hear, not professional at all. Some of the other employees are not friendly either.

    Advice to Management

Be more friendly to employees, ask how they are, smile, ask if they need help, make them feel, like you are happy to have them here!

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Full benefits for part time employees
Employee appreciation days; bbq during the summer, chili, taco days in the winter
The Star Club - they collect small donations from employees throughout the year, $1 at a time, which, with over 300 employees turns into a substantial amount. Then they help an unwed mother of 2 at checkstand 6 who's having a hard time with her rent: a one time grant of $2000!
THIS IS A GOOD COMPANY! They care about their employees!

    Cons

The usual company politics like everywhere

    Advice to Management

    Watch your low level managers.

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company culture! I worked in the Starbucks Kiosk, but HR was helpful, Management was supportive, and opportunities to grow and improve were encouraged. Also, you get payed every two weeks, which is helpful!

    Cons

Obviously, Customer Service can be difficult. Additionally, I worked in a small part of the store with great co-workers, not everyone's experience will be as positive. The hours can be taxing, with management sometimes calling you in on your days off. Schedules are only made two weeks in advance.

    Advice to Management

Create a better work-life balance for your employees.
