I have been working at Fred Meyer part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay, so many locations, great co-workers, decent options for positions.

    Cons

Poor communication between management and staff, the customers feel they can harrass and abuse you. Management changes too often, things get lost in the shuffle.

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Truthfully, the deli is the last place you want to end up. According to most people. I actually enjoyed my time there because I always had at least 3 things to do at any given time. Being short-staffed and constantly suffering budget cuts makes sure that you always have more work to do than you can reasonably expect to get done.

Sarcasm aside, I did like the amount of work. It was much better than stocking the same shelf for 2 hours or facing shelves. I also had an awesome manager who would defend us against the store director if the store director was in the wrong. My manager not only saved me from getting fired over a drunkard of a customer, she also recognized my hard work by jumping me to the pay cap after only 4 months of working there.

    Cons

This is retail. Retail is not fun because customers don't realize how annoying and rude they are. Retail is also not fun because corporate always wants you to get more work done with fewer resources. The deli sucks because it typically loses a store money and directly interacts with customers, so you get both of the above extra hard. Shout outs to cashiers for having to deal with every customer, though. The pay cap was also much lower in the deli and came with a more stressful work environment than the rest of the store.

    Advice to Management

The deli is a money-sink, but I feel like investing more into it could change things.

    Pros

Good wages for managers. You can advance easily with drive and a solid work ethic. Many locations to work at, and relocation packages with some distant stores

    Cons

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Too many strategies come from parent company, which does not operate to the same extent.

    Pros

The jobs has lots of freedoms. It can be exciting at time and has lots of benefits. The main objective is to catch shoplifters but also you can also be helping the manger out wth internals.

    Cons

It's seems that they are tossing lots of operations audits in us these days that take away from the actual job.

    Advice to Management

A cost of living increase would be nice each year. I haven't had a raise in 3 years so that has me bitter.

I worked at Fred Meyer full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

One of the better retail places in the North West. Good health benefits. Smooth and easy transition if moving up being a Lead Clerk or management. Paid College BA degree for Retail Management. Discounts, and a very family feel like environment.

    Cons

Depending on what department your working in, each department runs differently. One of the downside of this company is poor management skills and leadership roles , depending on some mangers. Also you can be over worked if your manager requires you to do a lot more work than what your job title responsibilities are. Pay rates may vary depending on what departments, working in grocery would be a better a salary than most departments.
