I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

People in the store are great to work with. Most of them care about each other. Seems like it's the store against the corporate BS

    Cons

They care more about how customers feel vs how they treat their own people. They don't take in to account that other newer stores have it easier

    Advice to Management

Your technology is terrible. You should really fix that sooner than later.

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The store level employees are (mostly) fantastic, even management. The customers at this location are generally nice. Flexible hours. Decent pay for the positions available. Good benefits.

    Cons

Corporate does not respect it's employees in the least. They teach leadership models that they do not demonstrate themselves. Safety is a constantly talked about issue and yet the store has displays that are completely impossible to work with in a safe manner.

    Advice to Management

Show your managers the respect we deserve. Telling us not to worry about the integration but that you won't give us details until after the holidays is no way to treat us. Coordinators who see their leadership teams as only names in a spreadsheet also do not help us feel valued.

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Long time loyal employees -- office in SE Portland has free parking. Associate discount on many items in the store.

    Cons

Big bureaucracy. Constant revolving door in senior management. Kroger is headquartered Cincinnati and they are out of touch with the Customer in the west coast.

    Advice to Management

    Treat employees better.

I have been working at Fred Meyer part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    fred meyer has good benifits

    Cons

    my location had bad management

    Advice to Management

have a set work schedule for employees, as well as set cleaning schedule that employees feel are fair, the first person in cleans the same set of things every day, the second person to clock in has the same duties every day and so on. Consistency is the key to a good, fast, and mentally healthy working environment.

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

Nice benefits, union representation, the hours can be flexible for students.

    Cons

Poor communication, hard to get any help from the union, management doesn't focus on the everyday employees as much as the corporate ones, too much movement of employees. Upwards movement is difficult for many people, employees are picked for jobs before the interviews even happen.

    Advice to Management

Happy employees equal better customer service. If you actually care about us, we will do our job.
