What do you think of Free People movement line of clothing? I always think FP is overpriced for the quality of the items, but I’ve been seeing bloggers been raving about FP for a while. So just curious. I don’t mind paying a bit much for athletic clothing since I’m super into athleisure style, as long as the quality justifies the cost (think lululemon). Thanks!

    Pros

I worked at Free People for almost 3 years. There's a great discount and a lot of the people you work with become your friends.

    Cons

Upper management is horrible. They all hate each other and create an extremely hostile work environment. Management is not business oriented but rather run a "business" based on personal feelings. Management creates favorites and gives the people they like least the fewest hours in hopes that you would quit.

    Pros

The forty percent discount and the flexible hours with scheduling while you are attending school. Also, some of your coworkers can become your best friends.

    Cons

Management can be catty and picks favorites. If they don't like you, they will not give you hours even if you are promised a certain amount of hours a week.

Creative and fun, but poorly managed from the top down

    Pros

You will love your coworkers. They are the best part of this job and will become your best friends. URBN brands allow for a lot more creative freedom and autonomy in respect to visual merchandising and general management of individual stores than most other retailers. It is a fun place to work and the discount at all URBN brands is pretty nice.

    Cons

Home office seems understaffed and generally disorganized. It seems everyone there is doing the jobs of 3-5 people and so things are really thrown together at the last minute. This has a major impact on the stores. However, the stores are almost always held responsible for all underperformance, regardless of whatever shenanigans upper management pulled. The workload is heavy and expectations are unrealistic, and neither is reflected in pay. Favoritism also plays a huge role within the company and can affect promotions. Decisions for hiring or promotions do not always seem impartial or objectively based on merit; sometimes having a super hip instagram account can mean more than experience.

    Pros

Great atmosphere at the store level, I loved to be there every day. Great music and calm vibe. They offer a great discount (40%) on Free People and Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters. You have some freedom to express your personal style, more so than a lot of other retailers.

    Cons

Disorganized management and inconsistent scheduling. The people you work with can really make it an awful experience. There was very little training and poor communication from management throughout my employment.
