    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at FreeWheel full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

    1. Big new office 2. Same benefits as Comcast, compared with other small startups

    Cons

Career side: 1. Less career growth, as other review mentioned, the promotion path is weird. Some people who contributed less but has better relationship with the managers are promoted faster than those who work hard 2. Naive management skills, some managers have less experience how to build a team. And there are too many managers than the people who actual finished the tasks....

Be bold and fire some bad apples, reduce the verbose meetings and focus on the task instead of the bragging

I worked at FreeWheel full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    * Generally nice people * Good work/life balance * Decent pay * Decent vacation * Decent office/location * Good 401k match (from Comcast)

    Cons

    * Feeling of distrust between engineering and engineering leadership. * Lack of genuine interest/involvement in career growth from engineering leadership. * 'Authoritarian' engineering leadership - very much a "do as I say" mentality with little regard for decisions coming up from the bottom. * Leadership shows clear lack of interest and response to high attrition rates. ...

    Advice to Management

    * Hire legitimately experienced engineering architects and VPs that actually deserve the titles they hold. Make sure they focus their efforts on best engineering practices and the career growth and well-being of engineers rather than themselves. * Promote experienced software developers/architects into leadership positions. There are currently a core handful of engineers/managers that maintain tight control over technical...

I have been working at FreeWheel full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - Good vacation and decent 401k - Flexible hours - Successful company despite their best efforts - You can put the buzzword soup on your resume without understanding how to use any of it - Good company to just coast at - Never had my lunch stolen from the fridge - Not all of the kitchen tables wobble excessively - Desks of ex-employees that quit and were never replaced can be used as storage -...

    Cons

    - Terrible mental health benefits - Sterile office with no personality - No chance for career growth or a promotion unless you're working on the shiniest and newest high profile project - Amount of time spent in seat was scrutinized by upper management - Attrition of experienced engineers isn't addressed. This leaves no one to guide and mentor other employees which...

    Advice to Management

    - I never thought I'd say this, but follow through on and stop blocking Comcast corporate policies and initiatives that try to improve things for the low-level employees. - Address attrition instead of saying "it's good because the bad performers are leaving the company" - Address the dwindling morale. It's starting to hit the departments that care most about the company and do the most for fostering a positive...

    Pros

-Stepping stone to other companies -Stepping stone to other internal teams -Builds network -Managers actually do work -Some colleagues are really great -FreeWheel has a good reputation in the market -Basic snacks and drinks you'll find at every tech company -Flexible hours

    Cons

Management: -While managers do work they cannot manage people, most are first time managers -There will not be a true vested interest in your development, career path, or you as a person -Managers on the same team give different feedback/messages. Constantly contradicting each other -Management provides false promises to fit their own hidden ulterior motives Culture: -No work/life balance! People work from 9am-9pm...

I have been working at FreeWheel full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - Competitive salaries - "Fun" work environment (occasional happy hours, younger employees) - Feels startupy even though FreeWheel is well beyond its start-up years - Smart people who work hard - Career growth is decent (advancing in the company, switching roles)

    Cons

    - We oftentimes act like we're the best at everything, but there is strength in admitting to weaknesses, which people at FreeWheel don't do a lot - Work hours can get long, the workload can feel endless at times - Being owned by Comcast is never great to tell your family or friends - There is some fear that Comcast is changing FreeWheel for the worse. More and more Comcast policies are being added to the FreeWheel...
