I have been working at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you do your job reasonably well and are interested in the people-management side of things, you are mostly guaranteed to move up to a Superintendent or Manager role within 10 years.

    Cons

The company expects you to move every 2-3 years to whatever bunghole town that they operate in. Be warned - spouses that don't work for the company are not likely to stick around long in these towns. There are limited jobs outside of FCX in these towns and not too much to do. There's limited health care in some of these towns, too.

    Advice to Management

Does moving around so much really allow for gaining true technical knowledge and experience? I would beg to differ.

I have been working at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

love my job been with company 18 years
want to advance and feel the best opertunity is to move as well as advance use to work in morenci for 11 yeats prior to transferred to bagdad would like a opportunity to be a supervisor

    Cons

small mine here in bagdad az and the chance and room for advancement us limited do to the need for supervisors
this is pretty much friends and family orientated mine

    Advice to Management

this mine in Bagdad is a great place to work to begin or gain knowledge skills. I see bagdad as a place that's left alone bye corporate it's protected bye the locals.
The mine offers to friends and family before fair and equal opportunities. what is controlled here is controlled in house I have seen supervisors do wrong be protected seen employees do little be fired. I have been through leadership courses I have been in leadership positions. I know a g [d leader has falowes not pesants. a good leader builds leaders don't have to lead by athoruty but rather with the ability to influence other to accomplish a task or mission without the use of athoruty.

    Pros

Good training, good opportunity for advancements with hard work, as well as strong efforts to make an impact on community

    Cons

Work/ life balance was what you made of it, but could sometimes be overwhelming or demanding. Training sometimes took place on off days with no reimbursement for time.

    Pros

Big company, some good mentors if you seek them out. Pay was good and company provides very cheap accommodation in Morenci

    Cons

Poor safety culture, my manager wasn't very solid and as a result department lacked direction and morale was poor.
Morenci isn't for everyone either, hard to believe company towns still exist in the 21st century!

    Advice to Management

Hire managers that can manage people as well as the bottom line. Lots of employees not contributing anywhere near their full potential.
