I worked at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good interaction with highly skilled designers in a friendly project environment, good benefits with appropriate salary level, challenger projects, good roadmap of products.

    Cons

Sometimes the lack of transparency between the communication of the top management with the employees was the cause of demotivation of the team

    Advice to Management

Could be more opportunities for intra company job rotation

I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great friendly atmosphere. 12 hour 3/4 day work weeks. Excellent learning ability.

    Cons

Hard floors make it very tiresome on the feet. Long hours.

    Advice to Management

Hire the good temps before they move on. I have been with the company now for 2 years with no sign of getting permanent hire yet. I am dedicated and yet nothing.

I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wonderful CEO in Gregg Lowe. This has been a very stable company that has produced world class products.

    Cons

Being bought out by NXP so the future, new CEO, and culture are TBD. There is currently a culture of unknown which can be difficult at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep following the advice of Gregg Lowe to be a better company by changing the culture. Culture is everything and should not be ignored.

    Pros

Great learning experience and good team.

    Cons

I worked during spring semester and expected an extension to summer which did not happen because of acquisition by NXP.

    Advice to Management

It would have been helpful if I had known about my internship termination early on.

    Cons

No clear career path for all levels.

I worked at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Good people who care about what they do and the people they work with.
    - Interesting work.
    - Good pay and benefits.
    - Global organization which has contributed positively more than subtracted.
    - Telecommuting supported.

    Cons

    - Global organization which can mean early mornings to meet with people to the east and late nights to meet with people to the west -- sometimes on the same day and with the same people.
    - Many, many reorganizations and management changes and when you are caught between them you are out the door. Reductions routinely occur 4-8 times a year.
    - Headquartered, for the moment, in Austin, Texas. If you are somewhere else in the United States expect to be marginalized in any reorganization.
    - Freescale is being bought out by NXP, a Dutch company. Statements made during the merger announcement claim $200 million in projected savings in the first year. One can expect a large portion of that to be people based on "normal" post-merger behavior.

I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I get a paycheck every two weeks.

    Cons

Very stressful work and almost always understaffed. Every shift does things different and complains about each other. Very poor business practices. The engineering group is useless, 75% of the engineers could be fired and the place would be fine. There is too much Motorola dead weight. Most of the stress is related to the engineering group not understanding or doing their job. Engineering shows up to collect a check, not to make anyone's job easier. I can't wait to find a new job. I have been working in this hellish nightmare for 5 years and want out badly. Only work at freescale if you are collecting a check. You will not find any future working here.

    Advice to Management

Management doesn't care about education or how hard you work. They are old Motorola and have a good old boy network. Management moves people up if they like you and you do everything they say. I have a BS and an MS degree and management promotes people that have neither. It is like the old saying " it's not what you know, but who you know". That is how Freescale operates. Management needs to make serious changes. Many employees feel the same way, but are to scared to voice their opinion. The freescale way is reactive and not proactive. The past 5 years of my working career have been a waste, I can't wait to find a new job.

I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    A Lot of Senior People

    Cons

Staff on the Fab floor is too light.

    Advice to Management

Need to reduce headcount in the office area and increase Fab head count. Reduce the amount of meetings per day. Not value added.
