I worked at Freescale Semiconductor (More than a year)

    Pros

    good coworkers and friendly environment

    Cons

bad management. They are not supportive, they use their power and position to abuse employees. some of them are insulting employees. lots of people leaving from some groups.

    Advice to Management

they need to rebuild new management personnel by outsourcing managers. there is lots of internal interaction that make it difficult for others to survive. So unhealthy management

    Pros

Enjoy working on SENSORs and semiconductor devices.

    Cons

On contract. Company does not seem to want to make contractors full time with the company.

    Advice to Management

Need to turn contract employees that have been on contract for over two year to full time employees.

I worked at Freescale Semiconductor as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Pay, Great Bosses. The Mentors in the team are always ready to help out.
The HR team does a great job at orientation and keeping the interns and new joinees engaged in outside-of-work activities.

    Cons

Not a lot of opportunities for inter departmental mentoring or training.

    Cons

I did not find any cons....

    Pros

Worked with some really smart people.
Got to collaborate with several global offices.
Lots of resources if you needed an expert in some area.
    Great health benefits.

    Cons

    Division was poorly managed.
Leadership within division changed every 12 to 18 months.
With change in leadership comes a change in focus and goals but when changing
so frequently no traction is ever made.
    Work/Life balance could be better.

    Advice to Management

Pick good leadership and give them time to accomplish their goals.

I worked at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people were great. Some of the best minds in the industry. Salary and benefits were slightly below average for the industry. CEO seemed like the best we had in some time. Still have pockets of differentiating technology.

    Cons

Most of those best minds have left or have been let go in short sighted cost cutting. Freescale engages in low scale layoffs every year; often multiple times per year. Layoffs are usually kept small enough to not trip any disclosure requirements.

Work life balance varies greatly depending on the group you are in. It can range from good to absolutely soul sucking. Pay attention to the location of most of the positive reviews... Austin. Phoenix area is and has been a step child for some time. Management in the Tempe Analog group is terrible. Sensors is a revolving door. RF group, on the other hand, is extremely well run with good work/life balance.

Culture is dysfunctional with different pockets depending on which executives are still around from which past CEO. TI management that came in with Greg Lowe centered in Austin and manufacturing. Still many pockets of IBM culture from previous CEO. Phoenix still has much of the old Motorola culture; at least in the RF group. Now with the NXP merger looming yet another culture.

Merger with NXP is supposed to realize $200M in savings. Assume a large % of that will be people let go...Most of the senior management after the merger will be from NXP.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to act like you are always the smartest person in the room and listen to your employees.

I worked at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Freescale has very smart and dedicated employees. People are willing to work across organization lines to accomplish goals. Company is large enough to allow movement to different groups and develop new skills. Some teams are involved with cutting edge technology and bringing product from the laboratory to full production.

    Cons

Upper management changes every three years which causes temporary chaos as strategic goals are revised.
This is a company with world-wide design and manufacturing sites and world-wide customers. Be prepared to be on the phone early in the morning to talk with Europe and in the evening to talk with Asia.

    Advice to Management

New management should have an open mind and take time to learn company before implementing major changes.
