      Pros

Good work/life balance for technical staff. Marketing people aren't treated as well.

      Cons

Constant layoffs to try to meet market numbers. Not a semiconductor leader, so things may never get better.

A shell of what it once was

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The people were great. Some of the best minds in the industry. Salary and benefits were slightly below average for the industry. CEO seemed like the best we had in some time. Still have pockets of differentiating technology.

      Cons

Most of those best minds have left or have been let go in short sighted cost cutting. Freescale engages in low scale layoffs every year; often multiple times per year. Layoffs are usually kept small enough to not trip any disclosure requirements. Work life balance varies greatly depending on the group you are in. It can range from good to absolutely soul sucking. Pay attention to the location of most of the positive reviews... Austin. Phoenix area is and has been a step child for some time. Management in the Tempe Analog group is terrible. Sensors is a revolving door. RF group, on the other hand, is extremely well run with good work/life balance. Culture is dysfunctional with different pockets depending on which executives are still around from which past CEO. TI management that came in with Greg Lowe centered in Austin and manufacturing. Still many pockets of IBM culture from previous CEO. Phoenix still has much of the old Motorola culture; at least in the RF group. Now with the NXP merger looming yet another culture. Merger with NXP is supposed to realize $200M in savings. Assume a large % of that will be people let go...Most of the senior management after the merger will be from NXP.
