I have been working at Freie Universität Berlin (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Professors and mentors, good access to equipment and lab space. Nice location right outside the city of Berlin

    Cons

Project was not organized well. Time was constrained so not much was able to get done. Classes were running during our research so there was not much guidance

    Pros

Great research university in a beautiful city. Smart students, friendly colleagues, excellent libraries and buildings

    Cons

German hierarchy, over filled classrooms, lack of stability in work contracts, students who have to work and can't commit fully to their learning

    Advice to Management

Commit to further the mission if the FUB through contributing capacity to help Germany address current social challenges like Refugee settlement, environmental development and school justice.

I have been working at Freie Universität Berlin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Green campus, very affluent in grants

    Cons

Not English friendly. Unless you speak German you'll have a very hard time.
You'll have to adjust to a different mentality and unfortunately there's no tolerance whatsoever.
There is very little discussion going on between the professors and their students.
Everyone shrugs responsibility in fear of being blamed, so there's a very toxic office culture.
I was working in the Physics department so it might be different for other departments. Unless you continue to work in Germany- there's a very limited horizon for your academic career.

I worked at Freie Universität Berlin part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is decent and work environment & infrastructure is overall positive. At the same time, the demands on time for me were not too high, while opportunities for self-improvement were given.

    Cons

In-fighting is a problem, and that also very ideologically charged. Overall this place is run by highly career-driven people and not necessarily in a good way.

    Pros

    student-friendly, well paid part-time job

    Cons

could be boring and is not very challenging, barely any use for future advantage

    Advice to Management

Involve students more into the work affairs and orginize social and employment events. Better feedback policies.

I worked at Freie Universität Berlin part-time

    Pros

    - kein überragendes aber solides Gehalt
    - Freiheit bei den Arbeitszeiten
    - generell keine Schichtarbeit

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Durch die bürokratischen Strukturen sind Ratschläge an das Management nicht oft von erfolg gekrönt.
