I have been working at French Lick Resort full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good health benefits. Beautiful Resort.

    Cons

Good pay raises the first 3 years, but then raises are minimal.

    Advice to Management

Better communication company wide. Raises should not decrease, but rather increase for experienced and dedicated staff.

    Pros

Fun job. Fun people. Great hotel

    Cons

Late nights. Bad management. Crazy schedule

    Advice to Management

Don’t expect so much out of the high school kids. Promote within the organization and stop bringing in new managers.

I worked at French Lick Resort full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong benefits and PTO, good employees. Support from upper management.

    Cons

Remote location makes retaining talent challenging, or even attaining them in the first place.

    Advice to Management

Keep the focus on providing jobs to the area as Bill Cook wanted to do,

    Pros

Medical, Dental, decent benefits, friendly coworkers

    Cons

Very dishonest company. They constantly scream broke stating that they need to cut hours to employees and funding to the surrounding area. Meanwhile, they will constantly add amenities and expensive unneeded purchases such as a light show in west baden, a factory-style building, 125+ new slot machines, and a gazebo at the stables. They will also take away benefits to employees while screaming broke as they make un needed expensive purchases. They over-pay employees in the tipping positions but extremely underpay employees in any sort of technical position requiring skills, making them one of the lowest paying employers in the industry. Middle management is allowed to use fear and intimidation against employees making a normal job incredibly stressful.

    Advice to Management

Lose the fear and intimidation tactics, pay better, upper management work on honesty.

I have been working at French Lick Resort part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They give great benefits for full-time employees. They offer delicious holiday meals. You get a discount at the entire resort and off of concerts held there. They allow you to work banquets and make more money as well.

    Cons

It can often be a 7 days a week job. Only certain positions have set work hours. It is a lot of standing as is the case with most hospitality jobs. The cafeteria is very subpar. Poor work life balance because you have to work all of the time, particularly holidays and weekends.

    Advice to Management

Just keep promoting a positive environment. Housekeeping at West Baden is intense and the managers are often rude but they get the job done.

    Fun environment, good money

    Cons

Nepotism is rampant, promises are made and never fulfilled.

    Advice to Management

    Be fair, keep your promises

  9. "Great place to start in the hospitality industry"

    Pros

French Lick Resort is a growing midwest destination for families, golfers, and conferences. Because the resort includes two hotels and multiple amenities, including golf courses, spas, historical sites, restaurants, and a casino, there are opportunities to explore all aspects of the hospitality industry. With management's willingness to allow employees to work varying jobs and a promote from within culture, you will find a position that you enjoy and succeed at.

    Cons

Compensation is earned, not granted. Entry level wages can seem low but opportunity for raises and promotions can come quickly if your work merits it.

I have been working at French Lick Resort full-time

    Pros

The best thing about working for the resort is the ability to help people. As a company, French Lick Resort is not too large or too established to embrace necessary changes that need to be made in order to serve our guests in the best way possible. I love that we are always asking ourselves, how can this be done better? Also we are empowered to do the right thing. This is a fantastic place to come and make a difference.

    Cons

I suppose a con would be that we are sometimes slow to change. Because we are somewhat “old school” we like to consider all angles before making a big decision (especially in regards to spending money).

    Advice to Management

Continue to support your associates with tools they need to work more effectively.
