I have been working at FreshDirect full-time

    Pros

As a tech-enabled *food* company, food comes first, so:
-Lots of great food around the offices
     -Passionate group of foodies
-Colleagues are some of my best personal friends
-Lots of loyal "old timers," who are flexible

SO MUCH POTENTIAL: FD as at the forefront of the disruption of traditional supermarket/grocery, and rivaled really only by Ocado in terms of scale and expertise. The opportunity for just the "base" business is massive, let alone add-ons like same-day.

CAREER OPPORTUNITY - if you do a great job, you will be rewarded with new challenges. If you're able to sell your vision cross-functionally, no will stop you from realizing it.

HARD PROBLEMS - attract some really smart people and solving them provides a real sense of achievement

New world-class campus and facility in the Bronx

Highly marketable experience for roles in CPG, Retail, Manufacturing, or Ecommerce

    Cons

Some growing pains: red tape popping up and more concern about "how we work" and "what roles are" that can prevent us from just getting stuff done
No strong vision/leadership in tech product management
As a business built on next-day service fulfillment - there can be a lot of fire-drills

    Advice to Management

Rally resources around "the basics" - great product and execution. The financials will follow. This means fewer "cops" policing activity and reporting/opining/presenting on it, and more people actually doing stuff, aided by technology.

Build out the senior team with strong leaders in IT, digital product, and supply chain.

Hire more entry-level corporate people from the facilities.

Invest in ongoing training - functional and general business - for corporate people.

Splurge for new laptops and standing desks for those who want them - the reason people want these is to work harder/better for you!

Focus on improving *how* we work is welcome, but be careful that the move to "open information and communication" doesn't turn everyone into "desk jockies" that don't interact in person.

    Pros

Still trying to look for one.

    Cons

Not organized at all. Management runs around like chicken with no head. The lack of culture is ridiculous, at a meeting the CEO was asked to address it and he got lost in his own words while trying to explain the company's "culture" or lack of to be realistic. Management looks down on employees, they make decisions that directly affect your work from a day to another without considering what you have to say. They also lie in your face. If you value professionalism at least just a little avoid this company.

    Advice to Management

Hire a consulting agency and get your organizational structure together. You're only focusing on your customers and growing a market share. This growth will get to a point that is not sustainable with the unprofessional manner that issues are handled internally.

    I worked at FreshDirect full-time

    Pros

Great environment with lots of technology and opportunity to learn as well as grow.

    Cons

At times, you will have to get your hands dirty (literally) but wasn't that big of a deal for me.

    I worked at FreshDirect full-time

    Pros

Great product, great service, people leave at 5

    Cons

Company culture is a mess. Management thinks that it’s the next Snapchat or cool place to work where in reality it’s the most non-tech tech company ever with miles of overused oversight and low morale employees. The same five people make all the decisions and if you aren’t one of them- you might as well look for another job. HR could care less about its people and are out only for the senior team.

    Advice to Management

Get new senior management team in- clean house. Everyone’s been there too long and can’t see the necessary change that’s needed.

I have been working at FreshDirect full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities for growth, good place to learn as you go, leadership development, decent benefits, good HR, employee discounts & giveaways, expanding business, free coffee, employee events

    Cons

Cold environment, long hours, not an ideal location, culture not consistent from department to department, horrible restrooms, have to work weekends

    Advice to Management

Management needs to work harder on streamlining communication and accountability. Also minimize the impact of office politics. Pay is also a large concern for a lot of employees.

    Pros

Really appreciate the business model and the overall concept of the website. Bringing exceptionally sourced food to mass market is what the company does.

    Cons

BRUTALLY understaffed, especially in the lower levels, leading to a top heavy organization with no structural stability and room for growth. No communication between departments, that often ends in frustration and duplication of work. Heavily focused on reaction and not proactive planning. Also, the horrible health insurance with no out of network coverage.

    Advice to Management

Properly define roles and responsibilities across the company and stop adding top management positions without understanding the minute and intricate details that go into running the everyday business.

    Pros

Great working people on the base that truly believes in the mission of the company, intent to improve the work culture, great if you come in from senior management level

    Cons

Senior Management goals are not aligned which makes workforce jobs dificult, rather hire from outside that within, no career development, bad work culture

    Advice to Management

Focus more on employees development and how to contribute best to the company vs trying to be favorites to the top tier

I have been working at FreshDirect full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

tremendous growth, great and talented people, hard working, commitment to the business and each other. Very People focused and long term strategies generally articulated very well

    Cons

Sometimes objectives shift quickly along with priorities and previous objectives get left in the dust. Not uncommon for a growth company looking to create the culture and who we want to be

    Advice to Management

Despite what appears to be over communication at times, critical information and accountability not always cascades to the lower levels from a KPI and metric perspective
