    "Lucky to work here!"

I have been working at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people and the culture really stand out! Everyone is friendly, engaging, respectful and very team oriented. There is the sense that the HR Manager is always looking out for you - always kind and empathetic to your stress and frustrations, and does what is in her power to help. That trickles down to how the firm functions - nice people working hard together.

    Cons

The refrigerator in the cafe stocks sparkling water but not flat water? First world problems....

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Nice offices and perks (soft drinks & coffee), occasional free lunch. Great support staff.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations from management without putting any emphasis on training. Promotes culture of fear and blame where employees are afraid to ask questions- I've had a peer procrastinate for hours on a number of tasks for fear of asking the supervisor for help. Out of date IT systems which further slow down efficiency.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees and they will meet your expectations. Support staff are not machines, if they don't work perfectly- tweak/train them or you are just setting them up to fail- it's in your best interest as well as theirs.

I worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The job had great perks, office parties, and the overall morale of the firm was great. Benefits package unmatched. Staff sports leagues were a pretty nice touch.

    Cons

If you work at the particular office I worked in, you will have to suffer with a micro-managing Office Manager. They have their good days, but the bad.. were bad. Reviews of similarly labeled employees were legitimately cut and paste. If you had one minor hiccup close to review time, that totally outweighed the good for the previous 11 months. Pay for work volume could've been better considering the firm is large and based out of two headquarters.

    Advice to Management

The best advice I can give is to possibly take into consideration that one bad should not and does not counter the numerous good.

    Pros

Great people to work with. Attorneys are really smart and great to work with. Support staff is well trained and extremely helpful!

    Cons

Senior Management is not well connected with their staff. Concerned more about themselves.
Very intense and fast paced working culture.

    Advice to Management

Be more open minded on how to get work done effectively. Don't do something just because "it's how we have always done things" Support your staff more by listening and understanding the issues they face.

    Pros

You are working with the best and the brightest attorneys on high profile domestic and international cases. The firm supports traveling to other offices and encourages attorneys to work for extended periods abroad in another Freshfields' office.

    Cons

As with any other law firm, the hours can be tough and the stress level high.

    Pros

20 Vacation days, 2 float days, 6 sick days
Health Care paid for by the firm
Great New Offices at 601 Lexington
Pretty laid back atmosphere at most part
Firm pays 1/3 of your yearly gym membership (support staff only)

    Cons

Poor Pay Rises (so negotiate a good rate when you start)
Poor Bonuses (not paid on performance paid equally across the firm)
    No real annual appraisal process

    Advice to Management

Provide support staff with a good carreer path and more of an opportunity to grow

    Pros

Word is getting out about sketchy hiring practices. Firm does not inderstand what they are hiring for and communication btewm NY and DC offices is awful!

    Cons

Still are hooking in applicants with no intention of serious job offers being made. BEWARE!!!

    Advice to Management

Look at last year of applicants, offers made and not...serious inefficiencies, inequality, stringing people along= abuse.
