I have been working at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer full-time

      Pros

      - Prestigious - Great international work - Challenging assignments with early responsibility

      Cons

      - No sense of teamwork among team members: associates tend to become good teammates, but there is a gap between them and partners. You often feel like you work “for someone and their goals” instead of “with someone towards a common goal.” This is made clear to you with passive agressive comments when partners get stressed. - Very clear favoritism by the managing partner of certain employees. This sets bad precedent...

      Advice to Management

      - Hire partners who are great partners but also great leaders to their associates. People who often get promoted at Freshfields NY are the ones that instill “fear” rather than inspire. There is a strong need for better cohesion among associates and partners. - With such a small associate class, your goal should be for everyone to be equally skilled by the end of 6 months, a year, etc. It is much easier to follow the...

I have been working at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer full-time

        Pros

Best in class in almost every area of law in Germany

        Cons

The salary is still considerably lower than US firm salaries

I worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer full-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

Helpful and friendly support staff, engaging Attorneys, good projects, decent benefits, PTO, good location, staff events, casual Friday’s, stocked fridge.

        Cons

Where do I begin; incompetent management, even worse HR, worst yet, Prehistoric IT systems. IT management just hides and has no clue as to what’s happening around them. Management only there to collect a pay check, nothing else, if they were competent, they would at least help out or at the very least do what they are getting paid for instead of passing off their responsibilities to lower ranks who are over worked as...

        Advice to Management

This is a large prestiges firm, run it like one! You can’t just “wing it” and hope for the best. Clean house of all these useless managers. I am all with gender equality, but please hire competent people, don’t just hire them because of gender (it’s probably illegal)

I have been working at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer

        Pros

Prestigious list of client, ability to get to work on large and interesting deals, associates are friendly and helpful.

        Cons

Minimal support below the paralegal level. Firm's internal service providers are located in London, which makes it complicated to get help from the providers.

I have been working at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer full-time for more than 6 years

        Pros

Really great firm with a focus on constant improvement. Ive worked here for 5 years and have been given the opportunity to learn and be involved with so much. If you show you are competent and care about your job, the firm does the right thing by you.

        Cons

Yes the technology can be better but the firm is working on it. Due to the all of the collaboration at the firm, some things take a lot of time to move forward. But in part, that is what makes the firm unique- there is a ton of collaboration.

        Advice to Management

Keep trying to make improvements and make FBD the best place to work!
