I have been working at Fresno County full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Get to help people and get paid vacation. A lot of good co-workers and excellent potlucks.

    Cons

High workload, high healthcare that increases every year, and unbelievable expectations.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone fairly and have even workload for all!

I worked at Fresno County full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Regular Monday through Friday 8-5, 1 hour lunch. Pension.

    Cons

An especially low rate of pay and a sub-standard training for a job that was put in place to make needy people Ineligible for benefits. A lot of kicking the can in regards to case management. 20% of co-workers had a idea what it meant to be a team. The rest were insufferable gossips and malingerers, always on their cellphones and throwing pot lucks! ( Shouldn't they be working??) This was from entry level workers all the way up the chain. Management used the job as their own personal chess game, causing drama more than the workers themselves. They especially give new meaning to the word County Culture.

    Advice to Management

It would be wise to remember to treat everyone fairly and realize that the kiss-ups are not true friends. Stop playing employees off of each other as a means to control. Good management will start off with a good relationship with their workers and a natural inclination of respect will come to them, not forced.

I worked at Fresno County full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed working with the children. It is wonderful when you are part of positive changes in their lives and you know that it was because you did the extra to make it happen. The children and young adults soak up, "I'm proud of you". I made a point to let them know. All the social workers are great to work with, it's a tight group.

    Cons

It's sad but court reporting come first, children second. Soo much work not enough hours of the day. Time management is the key to balance all the workload. Many workers get the experience, get a higher education move on with their career elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

You're lucky if you get a good manager who supports the social workers. It's typical that they care more about getting their personal quota's up from their line workers. A large segment of management who are not uplifting who constantly want to bring you down and who shy away from work. They arrive at 8:30 leave by 4:30 to five. Many social workers work from home to try to stay caught up. Or they work through their lunch hour and stay in the office after hours.

I have been working at Fresno County full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a government job. You get health insurance and paid leave. It's a Monday thru Friday. Sometimes you can work overtime. It has a retirement and deferred compensation account.

    Cons

Management is pretty bad. The workload is suicide. The expectations are unreal. Supervisors make up their own rules. It can be clickish and hard to promote if you don't know the right people or if your supervisor doesn't like you.

    Advice to Management

Do better and fight for your employees. Don't forget where you came from. What you guys expect from us is unreal and you know this. Wow!

I worked at Fresno County full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Helpful line staff. Cohesive. Thank you for your effort for those who have suffered!

    Cons

Micro management. Did I say micro manager? Keep kissing. You are apart of why Fresno county is garbage. Wipe your lips!

    Advice to Management

Trust staff. Do not assume. Department more advanced than your degreeless position! Dead end job expected like a doctorates degree.
