I worked at Fried Frank Harris full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people. When you have to work long hours, you want to enjoy the company. Luckily, the people are great, especially the support staff.

    Cons

Long hours - evening and weekends. A lot of times, you find out you have to work on and through the weekends at the very last minute.

    Show your appreciation to employees.

I worked at Fried Frank Harris full-time

    Pros

Good office equipment and interesting cases.

    Cons

Rainmakers got away with belittling those under him; snide comnents and basically a very stressful firm. It was the most upsetting time of my life. The rainmaker in the LA office got sued and subsequently closed its doors. I finally got out of there, and was able to get therapy to help me get over the lasting effects. Don't Work Here unless you have thick skin or if you are able to brush the stress off your shoulders.

    Advice to Management

Completely overhaul the firm, and take care of the employees who work very hard and treat others with respect.

I worked at Fried Frank Harris full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I think most of the senior associates I worked with were very understanding and people were generally very nice. We all try to protect each other's weekends if possible. It is big law after all and the hours are brutal at times. But the people you work with can definitely make a difference and I had a positive experience working there.

    Cons

A few bad apples who are crazy and condescending. Nothing you can do about that and they are probably in every workplace. Fortunately I did not have work with them for many deals.

    Advice to Management

Nothing really. I think big-law overall could use some big changes. The attrition rate is high at every firm.

I have been working at Fried Frank Harris full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good company to work for. Low turnover and a good home if you are middle or end of career.

    Cons

Small and people retintion is good, therefore, moving up in a problem. Not good if you are starting or middle of your career. Upward movement is not easy.

    Advice to Management

Do more internal promotions and help emoployees be better even if that means you might lose them.

I worked at Fried Frank Harris full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good deals, lots of responsibility early on. Other firms respect your work product and will generally be respectful at the negotiating table.

    Cons

Constant late nights make everyone stressed. Training is really trial-by-fire in most cases, at least in my former corporate practice. Best advice: find people you like working under early, you'll learn more and progress faster

    Advice to Management

Training is spotty based on who you work under.
Could do better across the board but frankly it's understandable when everyone is working hard.
