I worked at Friendship Manor full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Owners are caring about the patients as well as their staff. There's no job that's beneath them, and they will work right along beside you. The atmosphere is friendly and happy. If you care about people, this is a good place to work. It's not a place for someone looking to make a lot of money. This is a residential care home for the elderly and disabled. It's a very small business, family run and family oriented. Great for a mom who lives locally and needs a job.

    Cons

The pay is low but the owners aren't making much more then the employees because they accept many patients that other residential care homes would reject due to lack of funds. The only bad experience I had there during my 10 years of employment was when one of the owners got sucked into believing a new employee that knew how to wrap people around her finger. She wanted my job and eventually had him believing things that he never would have if he'd stopped to think about it before acting on it.

    Advice to Management

Don't worry so much about keeping the shifts covered, and therefore keeping people no matter how little they do. Listen to your employees that do get things done and obviously care about the patients, your business and your family. While it's fine to allow employees to have their children in the house for short periods of time, like while waiting for the bus, or after school waiting for parent to get off work, don't allow children to stay in the Manor during the entire shift on a regular basis. It's one thing if a child occasionally gets sick and the parent needs to bring them and let them lay on a couch all day, but another if the child's well and active. It's great to have kids come for short visits, but not for all or most of a shift.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Friendship Manor (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Free Food
-Good place for those interested in the Medical Field as it offers basically nurses aid type of experience.
-Getting experience in assisting and watching over elder residents, working with people.
-Getting your feet into some medication experience.
    -Some medical benefits.
-Also offers cooking and cleaning shifts if needed.

    Cons

-Max out at $11 an hour.
-Dirty and sometimes unfriendly environment as the building is quite old and needs a remodel.
-Inflexible hours depending on your position.
-At times, management can be lacking.
-Aside from potentially wanting to be a nurse or nurses aide someday, it offers little incentive to work there.

    Advice to Management

    -Work on improving training
-Make atmosphere friendly and more invigorating
    -Work on basic business management

    Pros

Clean work place compared to other nursing homes. Flexible hours. Small company celebrations once every other week. Decent pay for experience C.N.A.'s

    Cons

You will never get any recognition for your hard work. Not one pay raise the past three years. All about favoritism at this work place. Up to 13-15 patients per C.N.A.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time on evaluating employees by asking co-workers and especially the resident about the particular employee. No more favoritism please.
