I worked at Fry's Electronics part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I'm hard pressed to think of anything really positive to say here. Maybe that you can learn a lot about the items in your specific section?

    Cons

-NO base pay for anyone but cashiers. EVERYONE is on commission. To be a cashier they strictly promote from within and there's a waiting list. My store was back up 5 YEARS
-Terrible hours and unwilling to work around your schedule.
-Since everyone works on commission, your co-workers are not team members and CERTAINLY aren't friends. It's 100% cutthroat, dog eat dog on the sales floor. No one cares about you, not even managers.

    Advice to Management

Teach your employees, care about them, be more willing to work with people, start implementing a base pay.

    Fun

    Cons

Being stuck working in unrelated departments (TVs, toys, giant food section, appliances) that have nothing to do with electronic components.

    Advice to Management

Nothing really, there wasn't much they could do except make sure the supervisors were good at training the newbies.

I worked at Fry's Electronics part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It used to be good pay for sales associates earning hourly plus commission but i heard they took away hourly pay and you only earn commission.

    Cons

Management, Frys promotes and demotes so often and if you get in trouble you simply are transferred to another store

Hour lunch, you get paid every Friday, good scheduling

    Cons

    - everyone quits so you have to do more work until someone new gets hired
    - don't get paid enough for as much work as you do

    Advice to Management

I don't even know where to start, change the whole management system

    Pros

    Flexible Schedule and understanding management

Too many people on the sales floor at one time and commission is unfair towards some items.

    Advice to Management

Schedule less people on the sales floor, 4 is a good amount

I have been working at Fry's Electronics part-time

    Pros

Learn a lot about the latest tech, friendly staff, decent employee discount.

    Cons

No employee appreciation, horrible hours, terrible pay, random change of work hours, weird 8.5 hr shifts with 1 hour lunch breaks, insufficient training, unfair commission policies. The one thing your salary depends on is how much warranty you can sell.

    Advice to Management

Place is so damn outdated, looks like its stuck in the 80s. Too many refurbished products for sale. Try to be a decent human and start engaging with your associates instead of bossing them around.

    Pros

The coworkers were fantastic. Hour lunch. Associate purchases.

    Cons

Management changes every 3-6 months. Pay wasn't so well. Management will jump on you if you don't take your lunch on time.

I worked at Fry's Electronics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

*Get to help customers with technological problems.

    Cons

    *You're scrutinized like a shoplifter.
*Everyone hates their job in one way or another.
*Working in the service department yet you're given tools and equipment like it's a refugee camp.
*The customer management software - Remedy - is basically shot and constantly crashes.
*Not even close to being built like a place looking to give customer service, but if you make a customer mad, you get fired.
*Not even close to the budget we need to effectively do our jobs, but if you fall behind, you get fired.
*Randy Fry runs this company like he's some kind of sociopath.
*Non-union, low pay, and management uses intimidation tactics to either get you motivated or get you to quit.
*Upsetting customers is part of the business strategy.

I love shopping at Fry's as much as I hated working there. I hope that one day the workers there can unionize and finally make Fry's a great place to work. There are plenty of great people working there who simply got too comfortable and hence stay there longer than needed. Please, take your experience and look to new horizons. Fry's is the bottom of the totem pole for those who take customer service seriously.

    Advice to Management

Go find a better company who will appreciate your talents. I know a number of managers who have gotten fired only to get rehired at a new company with better pay, better benefits, more job security and happier subordinates and customers.
