I have been working at Frye Regional Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great staff, patients are generally nice and respectful, the nursing techs are the best I've ever worked with, it's a pretty clean facility

    Cons

Pay is not the greatest and scheduling is terrible, your days are rarely in a row and weekends are required, the nurse to pt ratio is a little bit much

    Advice to Management

    Work on boosting salaries

I have been working at Frye Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are great. Hours are good.

    Cons

Constant bickering between members of senior management. Too busy worrying about gaining and protecting their territory. Trust me, the employees notice.

    Advice to Management

Be forthcoming with information that impacts employees. Don't wait until the last minute to institute changes. Involve employees in roll-outs to help us be more productive and effective when changes occur.

I have been working at Frye Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

PAY IS OK FOR THE AREA. 12 hour shifts make it nice. Most employees are very nice and work well with each other.

    Cons

Management sucks. They only talk to you when they need something and really don't care about you as an individual.Health insurance sucks to.

    Advice to Management

Show your face more and act like you care about your employees. Keep rules the same. Let everyone know the rules (exactly what they are)

I have been working at Frye Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Employees are very nice and co-workers are the epitome of the South.

    Cons

There seems to be a "good ole boys" club where some people are allowed more "leeway" than others depending on how much money they bring into the facility.

    Advice to Management

Treat the employees like they are important and valuable, and you will get more job-pride and better quality of work...if that even matters. It seems like money/profit is the only thing that counts.

    Cons

parent company makes too many changes that should be handled at site level - this impacts trust and encourages competition among peers

    Advice to Management

    listen to your middle managers

I worked at Frye Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people! Good benefits, great PTO plan, annual merit raises. The hospital staff daily strive to provide a safe, stable, and competitive care delivery model.

    Cons

Despite excellent profitability, corporate reinvestment in the local facility has been minimal in last 5 years. This reduces Frye's viability to enhance physician satisfaction, maintain employee satisfaction and successfully compete in a highly aggressive market.

I worked at Frye Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Doctors, nurses, and ancillary staff care about their patients. Convenient location close to downtown area of Hickory. Technology and available diagnostic tools are up-to-date and great for a facility in a metro area of its size.

    Cons

the corporation that owned the facility when I last worked there seemed more concerned with budgets and cutting expenses than providing quality patient care by encouraging and providing incentives staff to work as a cohesive team.

    Advice to Management

Do away with the across-the-board 'cost-of-living' raises and provide incentives based on measured performances and patient satisfaction.

    Pros

The work schedule was flexible and fit my needs.

    Cons

I didn't like the set up of the floors, and 12 hours is much too long to have to work.

    Pros

The very best in technology, recognition in our heart center (tower), wonderful coworkers, educational opportunities as well as in-house educational classes.

    Cons

The present physician situation is one of the biggest downsides. There are so many doctors working within the new hospitalist group, the patients are dissatisfied with some of the doctors and having to see so many diffiferent ones if they have an extended stay. The payscale is lower than any in this area and the raises given are lower than the standard. The shortage of nurses and the lack of advertisement in the local newspapers to try to recruit new nurses. Nurses week was not recognized well this year. Frye does not give Christmas bonuses as other hospitals do. They only give a gift card to a local grocery store for $30.00. Other hospitals are giving $400.00 and $500.00 bonuses. The badges are terrible. You can hardly read the names on them (especially if you are elderly). Can't even see the credentials very well and they are located at the very bottom.

    Advice to Management

To advertise for nurses in the local newspapers and to increase pay scales to at least match area hospitals.
