Fuel has a friendly staff, and great management. The workspace is clean and open the office is at an ideal location.
Not a whole lot of opportunities to rise up the ladder.
Smaller office, very clean work environment, central location, interesting industry to work in, good platform to learn industry terms and formulas, exposure to multiple organizations
Late payments to clients was a very concerning recurring issue throughout my time there, calling into question accounting and management practices. Staff was a mixed bag; some were friendly & helpful, others very rude and difficult to work with, plus there was a high turnover. Aside from the annual Halloween party, few office perks or events.
Advice to Management
Accounting and management should fix their lax approach to paying clients, which certainly did not seem in line with standard practices. The work environment was segmented; I'd encourage more teamwork to increase transparency and remove the "us" and "them" element.
Overall Fuel is a decent place to intern because there are very nice people, flexible work hours, its located in a nice neighborhood, and there is a casual office atmosphere.
Some of the major cons of interning at fuel is the lack of challenging work (a lot of filing, data mining, etc), interns are paid as independent contractors and receive a 1099 at the end of the year (this may be illegal?), also management makes very little time to oversee projects and teach some of the skills one would want to learn.
Advice to Management
Stop paying interns as independent contractors and show more appreciation for interns. Fuel hires interns to do work that actually needs to be done and pays them very little to avoid hiring full time employees. There are interns working there for peanuts who graduated from NYU a few years ago.
