Do Not Even go to the Interview
Aug 4, 2015 - Operations Director in El Segundo, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There are none. There are no pros to this job really as there are holes in every aspect of the company. If you do work there, take advantage of all the stupid free gimmicks they give you. That's essentially all you get.
Cons
There is no PTO, they entice you at your interview with the possibility of growth, opportunities like a 'possible' stake in the Co., and the glamor of an IPO. ALL of which will not happen. The negative reviews are scary accurate and while I want to say some of the positive reviews could be the only glimmers of Fuhu, they could be dressed up, forced posts orchestrated by management. While I worked many long days, I was never a sucker and never had anything held over my head, so if they wanted to terminate me for leaving early, I was definitely ready. I was not going to get termed but at least I was able to come and go reasonably; average more closer to when managers arrive and leave. The management team, wow, was probably picked from a B-team set of college/professional firm dropouts. The president trances around looking for things to do while management runs around looking for things to do and everyone else is holding down the fort. They fire many people, talk down to you/about you in meetings, managers will not accept/own their failures and blame others when it is their fault. The lack of transparency, communication, integrity, and lack of respect for the employees make this place a diminishing work environment. Large percentage of employees are contractors who are bitter because they didn't get paid. Controls not established, so mass confusion all the time. Just over-demanding. After working there for a while I realized I was only going to be stagnant at my current position or I would leave (later doing the latter). Since I have left I have never looked back like most do. Please heed the warnings and just go work elsewhere, seriously.

Pros
Great group of people, tried to run like a startup
Cons
There were a lot of hard dedicated workers, but this company was undone by the CEO and President. They wanted yes-men and women and hearing a different perspective was not tolerated which is what lead to the downfall.
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
free snacks, occasional catered lunches, and guilt-free Friday treats until company went bankrupt and cancelled everything standard health package but no 401k alleged "PTO"
Cons
empty shell company, only looks good from the outside but is actually a chaos on the inside. management is terrible, managed by only those close to the president of the company. managers have poor attitude and lack of experience. the company has owed over 100 million in debt but is shameless so they do whatever they can to survive. negative and unhealthy company culture

Hostile work environment, but I did learn a lot
Aug 9, 2014 - Web Developer in El Segundo, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Working with bleeding edge technology - Learning a lot of new things (if you can hold out long enough) to grow your career - Not having to wait for some infrastructure team to install, configure, and grant access - Free snacks - Company-paid outings and events - "Some" very family-oriented people with whom you can establish bonding relationships - Good and taking other company's innovations and making things look/work better
Cons
- This may have changed, but there was no retirement plan. - They monitored consumption of snacks and reduced the amount they put out from storage to slow down consumption. - Difficult to establish bonding relationships due to the high turn-over rate and an atmosphere of having to watch what you say, because you may get reported. - Won't validate parking if you aren't a worthy candidate coming in for an interview. - They would say things in an attempt to motivate you, such as doubling salaries just to meet unrealistic deadlines. - Uses fear and intimidation to encourage long work hours. - Deadlines are really internal deadlines, but they won't tell you this until you're close to the unrealistic deadline, just so you will work harder. I've seen people who worked more than 12 to 16 hours, all for nothing and later to be told that the deadline wasn't hard-set. - Lied about the desire to provide work-life balance by going back to a 9 to 5 schedule, since working too much is known to be counter-productive and unhealthy. The president later contradicted this by telling employees that company will never be successful and accomplish its goals by allowing people to work a normal schedule. - Be prepared to work at least 10 hours. No sympathy (or empathy) is given towards long-distance commuters. Instead, they'll try to get you to move closer or may allow you to (temporarily) telecommute, but you can count on that being short-lived due to lack of trust. - Daily time sheet gets emailed to everyone in the company, as a means to drive people to compete and work long hours. - Depending on who you work with, your experience may be either rewarding or hostile. It appeared that morale and team unity was actually better in the Denver and San Jose offices. - Upper management will take your ideas and claim it as their own. - You're not allowed to get into a respectful disagreement with the President. Doing so will quickly get you on his black-list.

Pros
There are some parts of Fuhu that may offer a learning experience if you're lucky. Open your mind and you may acquire some valuable working lessons for your future jobs. Otherwise, this place teaches you what kind of place and people you want to avoid working at or with in the future. They offer free snacks and lunches to the employees.
Cons
It's expected of you to work overtime and if you leave early (around 6-7pm) you are lectured. Most people are provided a laptop so you can take it home and work from there. The work-life balance is nonexistent. They tell you that they do not give set raises or bonuses. Holiday vacations are short and they tell you right beforehand so it is difficult to plan vacations. There is no PTO because they tell you it is 'unlimited' with permission from your manager. Sometimes the work given to you is pointless as everything gets changed later on by management and you have to start all over again. Management are all friends of the president and do not know how to properly lead their teams. Any fault will be pushed down to the employees. If you don't befriend the correct people you are shunned. It's like you are back in school with all the cliques. There are always people running everywhere and people cursing. It isn't a professional setting at all.

Unless you need visa sponsorship, do not stay in this abusive relationship
Jan 15, 2014 - Illustrator in El Segundo, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I would like to thank Fuhu for giving me a new-found appreciation for the real life. The day that I left Fuhu was the best day of my entire life. My friends and family were jubilant and congratulated me. As soon as I walked out of the 909 Sepulveda building for the last time, I saw trees of green, red roses too; skies of blue, clouds of white, and I thought to myself: what a wonderful world it is going to be without Fuhu, Inc!!!
Cons
I've never been in an abusive relationship, but Fuhu, Inc. had allowed me to second-handily experience how it must be like! It was truly eye-opening! I googled 'signs of an abusive relationship' and what came up had striking similarities to what a typical Fuhu employee goes through on a daily basis: * Emotional Abuse (name calling, criticizing, “joking” in a demeaning or embarrassing way): when the president gets mad, you can hear him roar. The roaring of the F-words echoes through upper-management's walkie talkies and sends chills down the spines of the managers, who hail to the president as the almighty savior to their uninspiring careers. The managers then pass down the anger by berating their employees in an unprofessional manner. Meetings are called in order to humiliate the poor scapegoats. Criticisms are not constructive as they generally focus on personal attacks instead of professional development *Intimidation (uses threats, looks or gestures to scare partner): The Emperor of Fuhu walks by with his posse and the hall way is suddenly silenced. With a simple gesture, another soldier falls and his desk emptied. Fear tactic is used as the number 1 weapon to control employees. No job security whatsoever as people are constantly fired without warning. I have literally seen people shaking in the bathroom after talking to a director. *Isolation (control what partner does, sees, goes): Who needs a real family when you can be a part of this Fuhu family?!Because you love Fuhu, you stay close to the company to work on holidays instead of going home to your family. Who needs friends when you must work 10 hours/day and go to mandatory socials after work ends at 7PM? You will be told how to dress, how to act, and even how to talk. You will also be told who you should befriend within the company, and be asked to spy on your teammates and report signs of disloyalty to the managers. Let managers give you a total makeover so you can be crowned Miss Fuhu, Model Employee. *Denies Responsibility (blames partner for emotions and behavior): What?! Nah! There is no way upper-managers throw their employees under the bus for their mess-ups because Fuhu’s management team is absolutely perfect! As you can see, Fuhu, Inc. has no bad reviews on Glassdoor, look at all the glowing 5 star reviews written by various happy employees! (BTW, these happy employees must be ninjas because they could not be seen at the office) *Uses Children (threatens to take them away from the partner): the biggest irony is that the company produces tablets for children, but those working at Fuhu will never have time to see their children *Financial Control: Fuhu would like to make sure that you know you are worthless and therefore should never ever ask for ridiculous things such as: a vacation, or even worse, a raise…or, *gasp* a promotion!! Asking for these things shows that you are a horrible person so you might as well go fire yourself right now.

Submissive Employees Only. Professionals Stay Away!!
Oct 1, 2014 - Anonymous Employee in El Segundo, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You learn how to avoid such companies in the future
Cons
If you're not submissive, you won't survive. Managers are horrible and obey anything the president says without question. Their latest INC 500 marketing stunt is a joke. They actually admit that working at Fuhu is very difficult, working hours are long (useless long hours). You'll sacrifice your family time, work like a slave with incompetent managers, no bonus, no vacation, below industry standards pay, and maybe, MAYBE you'll become a partner... what a joke. They made over 100000% revenue growth in the 3 years and no bonuses or increase in compensation for employees. You work 12 hour days... if not, you're branded as 'not commited' and eventually get fired. This place is terrible in many ways, The turnover rate is ridiculously high. PLEASE STAY AWAY!!

Pros
If you consider working at a break neck pace and being treated like a child a Pro, then yes, this is the place for you.
Cons
They say this is a 'startup' culture, but it's more of a cult. The president and upper management treat the rest of the staff like a prison chain gang. The look down on anyone not 'fitting into the culture' which can mean anything from refusing to work holidays and weekends, or just not kissing up to them. They clearly prefer to hire asian employees and I can imagine this is what working in a factory in Asia would be like.

Project Coordinator
Feb 1, 2015 - Project Coordinator in El Segundo, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Lots of young, smart and energetic people.
Cons
Long working hours.Almost no national holidays off. No vacation hours during the first 6 months of employment. Although vacation/sick hours are unlimited after 6 months, time-off is subject to manager's approval, which you can hardly get. Super high personnel turnover ratio. All exempt employees are required to clock in and out. HR sends everybody's time card sheet to the whole company. HR will petrol the office to check everybody's attendance. Almost no training or reasonable guidance for new hires. Lack of solid plans or timeline for projects. Lack of communication between groups. Upper managements displays very little leadership. No respect to other employees at all. Promotions and management positions heavily based on seniority and personal relationship with the president..
