Former Employee - Systems Test Engineer in Mamaroneck, NY

I worked at Fujitsu full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work was very challenging. There were many opportunities to participate in a wide variety of disciplines, including both hardware and testing.

    Cons

At some level, a decision was made to reduce the size of the FNC in the US. The facility in Pearl River, NY was closed.

    Advice to Management

I hope that upper management will recognize the variety and depth of talent which was sacrificed when the Pearl River facility was closed.

    I worked at Fujitsu full-time

    Pros

People come together to get work done fast. People are committed to make sure product gets delivered.

    Cons

Old development tools and processes. Development process slow. Never make anything that's leading edge. Too conservative to take risks. Too much politics. People promoted based on connections.

    Advice to Management

Make something that's cutting edge. Get rid of politics. Give all employees laptops, not just managers.

I have been working at Fujitsu (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Positive work environment in general, with more cooperation than competition between organizations and employees. Tools and facilities are up to par for the most part. FNC still has its own manufacturing (unusual nowadays) which makes designing for manufacturability easier. Strong focus on quality.

    Cons

FNC lacks sufficient control of its own R&D and is subject to excessive direction from the parent Fujistu, Ltd. in Japan. Somewhat hampered by bureaucratic processes although improving in this area. Still, slower to market than its competitors. May be defocusing on hardware development in the US.

I worked at Fujitsu full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and flexible with telecommuting.

    Cons

Too much focus on cost-cutting which affects quality service to their clients, resulting in lost contracts.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on quality systems and not just outsourcing to the cheapest places in the world.

I have been working at Fujitsu full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall compensation and professionalism of co-workers.

    Cons

Many employees feel stuck in their positions. No matter how well you perform, there is no room for advancement or movement within the company. I think it would be beneficial for employees to have an opportunity to move around so as not to get stale in a position.
