I worked at Fulton County District Attorney's Office full-time

    Pros

High paying salary for prosecution, lawyers and staff are great. Trial experience.

    Cons

Management, consists of just one person the DA. Although there are supervisors, they have no authority. Lawyers have no discretion and are treated with extreme disrespect. It's hard to believe it is a "law office". The turnover rate is mind blowing. Employees at every level run from this place that is why they are constantly hiring.

    Advice to Management

Treat people with respect and allow people to be the lawyers they were trained to be!

I worked at Fulton County District Attorney's Office full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great working environment with professional coworkers.

    Cons

Success of the job depended greatly on victims and witnesses of crimes to cooperate with the District Attorney's office which oftentimes was very difficult.

    Advice to Management

    Show employees more respect.

I have been working at Fulton County District Attorney's Office full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great access to the court room, an amazing first job for an attorney looking to obtain real world experience. Some of the best trial attorneys I have ever had the privilege to work with.

    Cons

Management is elected and better at politics than law. The office is run by a career politician and the office is run like a campaign HQ rather than a DA's office. Everything is politically motivated and attorneys have little to no discretion in their daily activities.

    Pros

Great coworkers with a wide range of skills and personalities.

    Cons

Too many people whose work-ethic is "that ain't my job."

    Advice to Management

Separate the "wheat" from the "chaff"; there are too many people who ride the clock.

I worked at Fulton County District Attorney's Office full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, flexibility at times, favortism if you happen to be one of the D.A.'s pets which is not based on performance, but being a blind company person. Highest paying prosecutor's office in state, if not the country.

    Cons

Horrible management. Management has little or no trial experience. If you looked up micro-management in dictionary the D.A.'s picture would be underneath it. There is no training, reviews or mentoring. The caseload is inhumane without any support or relief. To add insult to injury you cannot dispose of cases without passing an act from Congress. Everyone but the blind "pets" is looking to get paroled from this place. Those who are making six figures hate it as well, but wear the golden handcuffs, so they are stuck as well. Once the job market and economy improve there will be an ever bigger exodus. Turn over rate is already ridiculous, people chose unemployment and huge paycuts over this "hell on earth".

    Advice to Management

Find other jobs and let new management with energy, experience and vision lead this office. Trust your ada's to do their jobs. Train and treat them well.

    401(k)
Experience in a fast-paced environment handling a heavy caseload with barely enough time to prepare

    Cons

    Micromanagement
Raises almost impossible to come by unless you are a favorite of the District Attorney
    Unrealistic expectations
    No prosecutorial discretion WHATSOEVER

    Advice to Management

This system is broken. It needs a complete overhaul. Give the attorneys some discretion to handle their cases, instead of having to always seek the approval of their supervisor!

I have been working at Fulton County District Attorney's Office full-time

    Pros

Fulton County has a very high crime rate so as an ADA you spend a lot of time working on very serious cases. You get to experience a lot of courtroom time, presenting motions and going to trial. You get exposure to all kinds of cases and legal issues and the experience makes you a better trial attorney. If you enjoy being the good guy, prosecuting evil and trying cases, this is the place to be. When you are able to bring justice to a victim, it is a rewarding experience.

    Cons

The Fulton County commissioners refuse to acknowledge the crime problem and under fund both the Court staff and the DA's office, so that the case load is overwhelming (300 cases per courtroom per ADA, compared to the LA DA's office which has 30 to 45 cases per ADA). No new ADA positions have been created in over 15 years for the DA's office. You can't get a raise because the money is controlled by the Personnel Dept. not the DA himself. So whatever salary you start at, you may get a few raises over the years, but.... This used to be the highest paid prosecutors office in GA, but now, due to the County Commissioners, the other metro DA offices pay higher that Fulton County. Thus, the crime rate goes up, and there are even more cases. Pressure from the County Commissioners, on the judges, to resolve cases, in order to clear out the Fulton County jail, makes the judges very bitter toward the trial attorneys. You will experience a tremendous amount of disrespect and outright sabotage from the judges. They inappropriately take out their frustration on the young ADAs.
