I worked at Fund for the Public Interest full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fun summer job - learned about organizing and got to work on environmental issues. You talk to interesting people, get to be outside most of the day, and raise money for a good cause. I canvassed and was a Field Manager in college, then directed for a few summers.

    Cons

You might not like it if you don't want to fundraise or be outside. And while a lot of people say no, you do get really cool people involved. A lot of my friends had higher paying office jobs, but I thought this was a cool alternative.

I have been working at Fund for the Public Interest full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Getting to work on issues that matter. -Learning skills like hiring, training, administrative tasks. -Watching your work have a real and wide-spread impact -Getting to travel to new cities for temp-work/training -having real responsibility in a workspace when fresh out of college.

    Cons

The hours are long in organizing. You’re there till the job is done. This can mean everything goes well and you’re out at 9 hours a day, but something can go wrong and you’re there from 10-12 hours. That’s typically six days a week. I’ve gone through phases of loving this to being drained by it but it’s a real factor to consider.
