    Pros

A wonderful group of people who are talented and well trained

    Cons

The publishing industry is challenging right now and Future has all of the associated challenges.

    I worked at Future full-time

    Pros

The creative teams, who barely got paid to live in this expensive area, were all amazing, passionate people that made quitting very difficult. We were like a family struggling to stay on a sinking raft. Upside, nearly everyone in the tech and games industry has worked at Future and oftentimes, you can bond over how miserable it is/was to work there. Anything higher than two stars for this company was either a brand new employee or upper management writing.

    Cons

-There are no bonuses, there are no raises
-They will shuffle your role at least twice, and one of those times will be a title demotion
-Management is horrible; unless you're sucking up constantly to the UK, you will be a nameless peon of the Future mass
-People were hired and fired, constantly. Lay offs of veteran Future workers happened every few months as well, and now there's probably only a handful of people there who've stayed 5 years or longer so don't expect to make this a long term career if you somehow decide to work there
-Management puts inexperienced people in charge who only want to further their own careers at the expense of their peers below them
-HR was great, then they fired the US HR team, then fired the one person later; HR is in the UK and not helpful at all
-There's a huge disconnect between the US and UK but neither office has it better than the other; management across the board is horrendous and there is very little transparency
-The CEO doesn't know anyone beyond her bubble in the UK
-The US team is now a skeleton office of about 15 people or less.

    Advice to Management

Don't even know who's in charge anymore, but it doesn't matter. They'll probably just buy more random magazines to slap the Future logo on instead of focusing on fixing the company.

I worked at Future full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Loved everyone I worked with face to face.

-You can play video games at work and no one will think twice.

-Depending on your role, you will get lots of free stuff (games, tech). Even if your not in editorial, you will still get free stuff now and again.

-Opportunities to work at gaming and tech conferences around North America and sometimes get rock star treatment while you are there.

    -Life/work balance is amazing.

    - Try new tech and games before the public does.

-Get to work with PC Gamer, TechRadar and GamesRadar

-The office space is cool and in a great location (though they are talking about moving.... again)

-Catered lunch on Wednesdays (but not the swanky 415 you see in the pictures, they cut that)

-Lots of snacks and different drinks.

    Cons

-At Future US you can get laid off at any moment. No warning, no whispers. Even high management will not know it is going to happen until its already over.

-Employees are constantly asked to do more with less.

-The top execs in the UK make decisions without telling anyone.

-They will lay off workers but then buy seemingly useless media properties.

-The US no longer has HR. (cause they laid them off) So now HR is ADP and one woman in the UK...

-Getting a raise is almost laughable.

-There is little communication between the US and UK teams. It can sometimes feel like "us verses them."

-Every time you think things are looking up they seem to fall right back down.

    Advice to Management

Top execs need to help everyone else make sense to what is going on. Be Honest and help everyone understand.
Talk to sales before you do lay offs.

I have been working at Future full-time

    Pros

Fast-paced, right at the leading edge of innovation in the publishing industry, creating original content loved by audiences, and getting the right value for it. The mentality of a start-up with the legacy of a premium publisher. Surrounded by clever people who are experts in their field. Constant challenge. Far more interest in doing great work than indulging in politics. Unlimited holidays, universal profit pool.

    Cons

Juggling multiple time zones, breaking out of the 'this is how we've always done it' mentality; relatively low pay.

    Advice to Management

Be clear about expectations, bring the staff with you. Keep growing, and building a sustainable business

I have been working at Future full-time

    Pros

Interesting digital media space for someone with zero experience

    Cons

The US office has lost its leaders - all of the ones that people respect. Leaders leave because the British CEO and CFO are either making them leave or they act superior but have nothing to show for it. Unfortunately the US is the growth engine of the worldwide operation so this one is going down the tubes

    Advice to Management

    Fire CEO and CFO.

    Cons

UK relationships and politics can get a bit weird.

    Advice to Management

Remember the people who make the content are just as important as the people who sell it.

I worked at Future full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people at Future are innovative, creative and incredibly hard working. They invest so much more than time in the success of the content and products.

    Cons

The UK drives what the US does as far as product and sales strategy. What works in the UK does not necessarily work in the US. Senior management also changes direction pretty frequently.

    Advice to Management

Let the US use the incredible talent they have to drive product development and sales strategy.

Open floor plan makes actual editorial work hard to do

Constantly told to do more with less

Tough environment for a declining print industry.

    Advice to Management

Be careful of leaning out too much -- it impacts morale in a huge way.
