I worked at G-Star Raw full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Discount on clothes
-Possibility of Networking with cool, unique individuals
    -Short Store hours
-If lucky enough you'll meet awesome staff members and actually enjoy being at work listening to an array of whatever music you choose. (Make sure there's an AUX CORD)

    Cons

-Lack of leadership amongst management staff

-Seems everyone is a sales associate with "other" responsibilities

-Pay for managers is very low due to many other companies I've worked for, and even though all employees receive a progressive commission, as a manager the opportunities are less than an associate to make sales

-Sales goals are also a bit of a headache because it makes the entire staff stress making their goal to avoid termination

-A huge lack of training for all employees, everyone is taught what they need to perform their everyday responsibilities and nothing more... And I've asked for further training but never seems to be time for it

-Naturally a commission environment brings competitiveness, so if you aren't a SHARK or HUNGRY FOR SALES this might not be the best fit for you (Goes for managers as well)

-This is AN AT WILL EMPLOYMENT (at least in the franchise stores). You can be terminated for something as simple as the Store Manager really doesn't like you or your attitude but you consistently make your sales goal and you were top seller for the last 8 months, even then I've witnessed 1st hand these people be terminated without warning on the spot.

    Advice to Management

I advise someone who is personable with their staff, focuses on the training of the staff to better equip them with he knowledge they need to succeed, be liked but never become friendly and always rule with an IRON FIST, I've seen to much pushback from associates as well as managers when given direction with constructive feedback.

P.S. Scout your team very well the first 3 months after that you should recruit and bring newer pieces to solve he puzzle that is retail

    I worked at G-Star Raw full-time

    Pros

The company has a knack for hiring very talented and likable employees, and I’ve met some incredible colleagues at G-Star RAW. The company overall is very hospitable, and they offer a nice clothing allowance as they expect you to be in their clothing all day/every day. They are extremely open to new ideas, yet the approval process is painstaking.

    Cons

It’s a super competitive, hostile and an overall toxic company. Employees live in constant fear of being fired, and management tends to segregate employees to remain in control and micromanage. It's a "boy's club" and there are strong racial undertones which is super unfortunate being that the Dutch are known for their liberalism. Priorities and strategies are often very unclear, and they shift very quickly leading employees to fight amongst each other for ideas and budgets. There is no investment in employees and growth is extremely limited.

    Advice to Management

Support, encourage and incentivize employees. Set realistic ROI’s and be clear with strategies. Accept that mistakes will be made, and it’s OK to admit when wrong. Teach tolerance and celebrate diversity among employees.

I worked at G-Star Raw full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cool Staff and Good Schedules that allow you to enjoy a healthy work life balance ONLY when the store is fully staffed.

    Cons

Lack of communication with leadership from G Star Corporate and its Franchise Store Front. Horrible leadership from the higher ups of the Franchise division. Lack of transparency from higher ups. Horrible salaries and pay for employees from top to bottom. Lack of resources and zero structural support for lateral movement within the organization. It seems as if you are sent to fend for yourself due to scare tactics used to help achieve impossible sales goals. Operational schemes are horrendous and the lack of top tier talent is non existent. Oh yeah, the buying team or person sucks!

    Advice to Management

Take a look in the mirror and ask yourself, am I truly prepared to do my job? Ask yourself if you have provided your team with the tools help with development. Take care of your people and they will take care of you, trust!

I have been working at G-Star Raw part-time

    Pros

I like the company environment and product from the Dutch company. The store was located in Aventura Mall and we had some good customers and made some good sales.

    Cons

The foot traffic was low. Not a constant flow of customers made for sales to be scarce; however, when you made a big sale, that was great.

    Advice to Management

    Move location of store

    Pros

I meet some good and talented colleagues in marketing creative. They were also quite tough and would work and work and work on a given project, even if it was a basic catalog. There also seemed to be some good opportunity if you drink the Kool Aid.

    Cons

The environment is chaotic ,competitive, unclear and aggressive. People were fearful and stressed overall, which created a situation in which colleagues were fighting for resources and attention. It reminded of me a lifeboat with too many people and it was easy to be thrown into the ocean--when it really doesn't need to be that way.

    Advice to Management

Be clear in what you want. Be consistent in your execution. Stick with the plan. Realize a team can do more and do it better if they are empowered and happy.

I have been working at G-Star Raw full-time

    Pros

Awesome clothes. Usually a cool staff. Great clients. Laid back.

    Cons

    No structure at all.
No room for growth - it's a franchise not corporate.
1 lady basically runs the company and she has no idea what she's doing nor should she be in retail.
I find it hard to believe my SM and ASM have worked in retail before.
    No corporate structure at all.
    Management has too much power.
No HR team, to visual team.
    No visual standards.
    NO CLOTHING ALLOWANCE.
And if you quit they will try to withhold your check until you return the clothes they gave to you.

    Advice to Management

G-Star should ban DenimWall Inc from managing their stars.
As far as DenimWall, the franchise owners, get a head of retail that knows how to run a retail business.
Involve the company G-Star more as far as training and standards.
    Make regional visual merchandising positions.
    Clothing allowance.
Employee agreement contracts so managers cannot be shady.
    PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE.
It's an awesome brand, just managed by a disgraceful franchise company.

    Pros

The only Pros i can think of is meeting interesting people who come and shop there.

    Cons

Management sucks, very shark like environment. If you don't make over 10K a week you will either get fired or starve to death because you wont make any money. Would not wish upon my worst enemy!

I have been working at G-Star Raw full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great environment, unique clothing, and a vast amount of different customers. Interacting with so many people on a day to day basis livens up mundane tasks.

    Cons

Disconnect between corporate and retail. Not enough hands on interaction between those who establish standards and those who carry out day to day tasks.

    Advice to Management

Give management more money in budget to create contest for associates. Show more appreciation when the stores succeeds and stop focusing on negatives. It is hard to keep positive when all your feedback is negative, even when goals are met.
