    I worked at G & W Electric Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Was well compensated and given quarterly bonuses every 3 months.

    Cons

Only downside working at G&W was that when we had to wait on parts from other departments in the plant, every employee in my department was told to tape the floors with color coded tape.

    I have been working at G & W Electric Company full-time

    Pros

Endless things to do, never sitting idle. Quarterly bonuses are excellent, 401k matching is optimal, and the people that you meet and work with are all unique in their own ways.

    Cons

Management needs to improve and more employees need to be hired for the massive backlog of orders going through the company. The company has grown beyond it's original facility and to this date is still growing. Lack of experienced seniors in the company makes it hard for the new hires to adapt to the company's culture. Occasionally you are required to cross-function other department's roles without notice.

    Advice to Management

Keep your Design Engineers free from distraction of other departments so they can release quality designs for both customer and error free manufacturing.

    I worked at G & W Electric Company (Less than a year)

    Pros

Professional Atmosphere and good people to work with. However, some of the personnel have their own agendas and do not foster teamwork.

    Cons

Horrible Training Program. Never took my job off the books after hired. Let go for bogus reasons. They lost 2 of their top customers and ran out of work.

  7. "Intern Review"

    Cons

They don't have the most exciting projects to work on.

    I worked at G & W Electric Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Growing company with innovative products. Provides good benefits and generous compensation. Brand new location with great office and manufacturing environment

    Cons

Too much office politics. Not a clear customer support focus. Aging sales force with little transition strategy. Product development is following competition rather than being innovative

  10. "It's a good place to work in a very bad economy."

Current Employee - General Factory in Blue Island, IL

    Pros

Steady employment with overtime available if wanted. Not a bad place to work. If you do your job and are to work on time management leaves you alone. Quarterly bonuses are something to look forward to.

    Cons

    1. Large Hispanic workforce. Very nice people to work with but they will speak Spanish every chance they get. It's very hard to learn a job from someone that has a poor command of the english language. Just from a safety standpoint management should make english the only language to be spoken in the factory.
    2. G&Ws starting pay is VERY low. The company is clearly taking advantage of the bad economy and the large unemployed workforce.

    Advice to Management

Please address number 1 and number 2 above. If the economy improves after the next presidential election (as I believe it will) you will lose a lot of good employees looking for better wages and benefits. Quarterly bonuses are nice but they don't make up for the low wages.
