I have been working at GATX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have had a highly positive experience working at GATX. Company recognizes and rewards high performers and offers great work/life balance. Employees have many opportunities to give back to the community through Make-a-Wish, Big Shoulders and other volunteer opportunities.

    Cons

Similar to any other business, GATX faces down cycles. Though we are in one now, GATX has a strategic approach to managing through it.

I have been working at GATX full-time

    Pros

This company really takes care of their employees, giving good bonuses when the company target revenues are hit, offering incentives to stay healthy, and ample opportunities to volunteer and give back to the community. It's a very positive place to work, where you will be known and befriended by others and are not just a number.

    Cons

Many people stick with this company until retirement because it is such a good employer, this only drawback with that is the median age range is not exactly youthful. Younger hires are beginning to come in, but the work/social balance may leave something to be desired if you are looking for that.

I have been working at GATX full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good employee retention and favorable total compensation. In general employees act as good teammates and the business is efficiently run.

    Cons

Lack of growth and new opportunities. Very risk adverse and many times backwards and stubborn in its approach. the company is comfortable and good at what it does, but has trouble with new ideas and expansion.

    I worked at GATX full-time

    Pros

Liked the people and office atmosphere. I enjoyed working with my team and found it fairly easy to communicate with other people around the office. Company prefers internal hires over onside hires.

    Cons

Sometimes it was difficult to contact upper level management in order to complete tasks. Not very many younger employees. Most employees have been there for while. It looks like many people will be retiring in the next few years.

    Advice to Management

Not much to say here. I had a great manager and generally has good experiences with managers of other teams and business units.

include the lower staff in more projects so they do not do the same projects over and over again
