Engineering Intern
Oct 13, 2014 - Anonymous Intern in Cincinnati, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Lots of great engineering experience that will prove valuable in the future Many resources to accomplish a variety of tasks Was given many projects, but only if I kept asking for more work Good people to look up to in higher management
Cons
Big corporate environment where many on my team worked only as much as they had to Impersonal to the point that my boss consistently mistakenly called me the wrong name, even after I completed many projects by the end of the internship Upward mobility is highly subjective according to other employee feedback and not laid out well Often left waiting for others to complete their portion of the task, which causes projects to fall behind schedule

Good pay and benefits. Clean and safe work environment. The jobs themselves are very interesting and technical. Lots of flex time and time off (once you complete 90 days probation)
Cons
The team environment takes some getting used to. I fell like I'm not part of the "club" sometimes. The training is all dependent on who is or is not willing to teach you.

Lots more work than can be done on time. People are often thrown at challenging problems without careful management of who is doing what. Sometimes tough and stressful work environment.

GE Aviation Digital - Engineering

Get to work on all types of aircraft. Always fun to see something you worked on fly. No longer laboring under the Jack Welch sweatshop mentality. Lots of opportunities to work in a global environment if you're willing to move. Very ethically motivated.
Cons
Very slow, overly bureaucratic, big company syndrome. Constantly adding burdensome process and then complaining how long it takes to get things done.
