GE really does hire and retain great people. Most everyone is very professional and pleasurable to work with. The company is so large that there's ample opportunity to follow different career aspirations. Compensation is above average.
Cons
Because GE is so results-driven, management can be very demanding sometimes unreasonable. Work-life balance can be a challenge because employees are expected to work long hours and meet seemingly arbitrary deadlines. When looking to move up in the company, things become very political and you must shift your focus from delivering quality work to pleasing the correct people and projecting the 'right' image.

Got to know a lot of good people. There was also a network of interns who hung out and volunteered together, which was really awesome.
Cons
There wasn't good work life balance; a lot of engineers were doing overtime. I felt like there was a lot of in-fighting between the engineers and the managers from GE global research.

Pros
Great Work life balance Encouraged by management to try new things and get involved in The Community. Good Compensation and benefits
Cons
Because we're here in Peebles, we don't feel as connected with what's going on in other locations, and we sometimes feel like we get the short end of the stick

Work life balance is great in that managers are very accommodating with regards to working from home and flexing time as needed. Permissive leave for salaried employees.
Cons
Benefits are bad and getting worse. No more free dental/vision care, 401K company disbursement at year's end only, limited awards/recognition.
