    Pros

If you are willing to sacrifice home life you can travel and move from job to job every year.

    Cons

Company too big and too many generic processes that are applied across all businesses. Nothing meaningful can get done in a useful timeframe.
Stock price reflects the lack of direction. It is attempting to call itself a Digital Company in order to attract younger engineers, but there is nothing digital about the company except the computer systems used to control equipment they manufacture.

    Advice to Management

    Break up the company.

    Pros

Opportunities unlimited for the career minded! Pay for performance is the norm. Unlimited training opportunities. Only limitation is your own skills and motivation.

    Cons

Lots of competition. Too much politics. Because of all the opportunities, a lot of managers have progressed that should never have made it.

    Advice to Management

Screen your candidates better and measure their results before they are eligible for promotion. If you have one not performing, remove the individual swiftly.

    Pros

Network building opportunities are great. If you get in good with management, then you are often assisted in pursuing personal goals in the company.

    Cons

Different CMLPs get different treatments / opportunities, and not much is done to standardize the program.

    Advice to Management

    standardize the program.

    Pros

Big, you can hide if that is your desire. If you desire a traditional management position, i.e. 1960s, this is a good place.

    Cons

Experience of most engineers at GE is limited to very specific areas with little understanding of end customer requirements. They tend to be inflexible with little value to outside markets.

Warning! If you are planning to come into GE from the outside, don't! It does not matter if you are a world authority, you will be ignored.

GE does not invent, they buy. They tend to be 20 years behind the industry and are extremely risk adverse. This serves the commercial aircraft market well, but inhibits competition in noncommercial aviation markets.

    Advice to Management

Lean out the management ranks, and get some outside blood in there. Learn to balance risks and abandon the atmosphere of threats and insecurity for the engineering work force. No one currently manufactures steam locomotives!

Quit moving all of the engineering jobs out of country. It just costs you more, and all of the state side engineers are tired of fixing the junk constantly generated.

If you truly desire a "fastworks" environment, then move out of Ohio. It's an attitude and life style, and is not supported by the traditional culture in the company or community.

I worked at GE Aviation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience working in a manufacturing and development environment. Overall, a very good company to work for. The company provided the 400+ employees who were laid off a very generous severance package. Our team had a monthly off-site events to promote comradery.

    Cons

Senior leadership made some gross errors in negotiating a deal that allowed an investor to back out of a $400M deal. Leadership committed these funds and then had to find ways to make up this shortfall. As a result 400+ employees lost their jobs. I left the government contractor sector (and my high level security clearance) because GE told me that they had at least 10 years of work to keep the programs busy. My security clearance has lapsed and I cannot compete for these jobs any longer.

    Advice to Management

Please make better business decisions when it comes to funding projects.
