I have been working at GE Healthcare full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Permissive Time Off Matching 401K Paid Company Cell Phone Flexible Work From Home (or wherever) Great Senior Leadership Fantastic Products that Save Live Everyday

    Cons

Talent Harvest & Management - lack of talent retention plans. There are leadership programs but if what you want to do and where you are in life is today doesn't fit that mold, there isn't much else that prepares you for what you want to do next. There are tons of training options and of course the infamous Crotonville, but the issue there is there isn't much guidance on what training is suitable for your career goals, and the training style is very 1970s... Not Nimble - it's very hard to get much done because of the internal silos Employee Talent - thought I would be working with the cream of the crop when I started, and it didn't take much to find out approximately 30% of employees are waste, about 40% are mediocre, 20% are people you want to work with and only 10% are people you want to work for

    Advice to Management

Start acting like a start up today... immediately implement a talent retention program and do everything you can to hang onto your talented people. If they walk out the door, you are losing not only good people but very likely years of GE and Healthcare knowledge that's walking out the door. Opportunity cost of this is immeasurable...

I have been working at GE Healthcare full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The company is massive, with all the weight that comes with that size. Ability to learn, lots of smart people, very ethical with considerable oversight

    Cons

The focus is on the number. This has not been a very successful strategy throughout GE based on the stock price but in the 20 years I was there it never changed. Improve the focus to breakthrough products, and service,

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring x McKinsey consulting, and hire a leader with imagination and a healthcare background. Leadership is not studying base and variable cost

    Cons

Large bureaucracy, internal politics can overwhelm key contributors, challenging to do business with, deep legal risk process

    Advice to Management

reinvent with fresh new ideas, particularly using fresh new employees. Be aware that disruptive innovation is one big way GE has seen it's current success and reinvention is critical.

I have been working at GE Healthcare full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great people, energized, Type A culture, and unlimited potential to move up in the organization if you do your job well.

    Cons

Many internal processes to navigate. Hard to push any risky "out of the box" ideas to management. Matrix style corporation, so you need to be able to influence people to successfully complete your job.

    Advice to Management

Look at real risks, not theoretical "near zero" risks to evaluate opportunities.

    Pros

Great benefits, culture and people. A very well run and organized company to work for.

    Cons

GE acquires too many companies and losses focus on existing employees. Employees tend to be a number and disposable.

    Advice to Management

Good companies are built because of their employees.

I have been working at GE Healthcare

    Pros

High caliber business environment with very talented people. Always challenging, always moving forward. Pretty cool to work on products and services that can help people in a clinical environment. No matter how good or smart you are there will always be challenges that require exceptional skills.

    Cons

Not a horribly friendly place - always about the numbers, always about the quarter. recent success is quickly forgotten - "what did you do fo me today?" Too many silos and agendas. Ultra competitive - maybe too much so. Can be very bureaucratic at times. Good people can easily get lost. Too much "who you know."

    Advice to Management

Demand performance - but reward on that performance without allowing individual managers to pursue their own agendas.

    Pros

    Global opportunities for careere development

    Cons

    Increasingly complex management and responsibilities.

    Advice to Management
