I have been working at GE Oil & Gas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits package, part of a huge company. Overtime is paid upto fairly high salary which is unusual. The projects are technically complex and vast which is interesting. There was opportunities to travel to exotic places but in the down turn this has been scaled back..

    Cons

American management, not a great team spirit. Managers generally more concerned how they look above protecting their staff from unreasonable criticism. Teams work in silos with surprisingly little standardisation.

    Advice to Management

Let the workers get on with their jobs, support them when the going gets tough.

I worked at GE Oil & Gas as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Positive, inclusive work environment; friendly team willing to help and teach me in the first months of my employment
    - Diverse work is available and the office s under-staffed, so with the right attitude you can gain experience in business areas such as design/RD, Customer or Supplier relations, Project Planning, Operations, Manufacturing etc.
    - Excellent location
    - Excellent benefits and positive health-oriented initiatives by GE, such as incentives to cycle to work; employees are encouraged to pursue volunteering opportunities

    Cons

    - Slow pace, careless attitude by a majority of the staff
    - Conservative industry, little to no innovation whatsoever
    - Regional management appeared incompetent. This is my first experience working for a multinational corporation and I'm told this complaint is common in people in my position. It was unpleasant nonetheless
    - My direct line managers - both technical and HR - were rarely willing to help and guide me, even with issues that were clearly their responsibility. I had to rely on colleagues to fill in for their role

    Advice to Management

The difficult state of the Oil & Gas industry is no valid reason to disregard your staff. Good management must be able to maintain communication with subordinates while managing their daily responsibilities.

I worked at GE Oil & Gas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary, high demands, good IT, given resources, access to technology

    Cons

Unprofessional out of control manager who had no real experience or knowledge and was just out for her own gain. Professional staff treated like infant school kids. Focus on safety commendable but counter productive

    Advice to Management

Engineers make better managers than office staff without any technical knowledge!
