    I worked at GE full-time

    Pros

Good 401k and job security for bad performers because they keep bad performers and don't take performance into account for layoffs

    Cons

When it's layoff time (every three years it seems) having to worry when you will lose your job

    Advice to Management

Get rid of bad performers to save money

I have been working at GE full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Used to be a great place to work - especially early in your career - project leaders given a lot of visibility. Projects challenging and the caliber of the employees was very high

    Cons

No long term strategy, leadership at the very top no longer values/understands what it takes to conduct quality research. GE is not effective at commercializing new technology.

    Advice to Management

New leadership is needed. Work on R&D strategy and making internal technology transfer from GRC to GE businesses successful - this will make GRC more impactful to the GE businesses

I worked at GE full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good medical benefits, 401k life insurance , dental and vision. Up to 6 weeks vacation depending on years of service .

    Cons

Management constantly changing. If your not an original GE employee (GE buys your company) your treated very differently.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your workers have to say, you might learn something. Experience also matters.

I have been working at GE full-time

    Pros

    Flexible work schedule, decent pay

    Cons

Healthcare benefits are atrocious, layoffs every time leadership fails to hit their stock price or earnings targets. Employees treated as a commodity. No raises for 2 years (across the board for Senior Band and up).

    Advice to Management

Need less management, and more people actually getting things done. Take 1/2 the CEO's compensation and save 100 middle class jobs that support a family.

"Great Company & Products but Sales Mgt Needs Overhaul"

    I worked at GE full-time

    Pros

    * An innovative global corporation with a strong brand! It is gratifying to work for a company knowing you are representing products and services that improves and saves lives.
    * Customers like to be associated with industry leaders therefore and securing client meetings is the easiest first step of the sales process.
    * Salary is reasonable; commissions obtainable (but don't be surprised if you make too much money and the comp plan is then changed to prevent a future higher pay-outs)

    Cons

    * High turnover and burnout; hectic work culture; many internal mtgs/conf calls, expect to work long hours , eves and wknds, exhaustive overmanaging.
    * Many layers of excessive complications in administrative procedures. For an innovative company, it is difficult to fathom why internal systems, tools and processes are so very antiquated and chaotic (leading to frustrations and overly time-consuming efforts).
    * When new ideas or systems are introduced, many influential long-term staffers are resistant to change.
    * A very political environment; promotions often given to "green" individuals using big buzzwords and who tend to micromanage.

    Advice to Management

    * People want to work for GE.There is however truly room for internal improvement and leadership accountability... teams should be built by leaders who inspire trust and promote a healthy, phenomenal work experience. As an example, if a manager loses multiple sales reps in 1 year's time, there is clearly a problem (not to mention a high cost of turnover).
    * GE could benefit by holding all managers with direct reports to the highest standard by conducting routine 360 reviews by their employees so GE can monitor and recognize good leaders and properly address poor ratings (before top talent jumps ship).
    * Mandate HR to request exit surveys on all departures; monitor and track closely to understand why your performers are leaving and implement any respective corrective actions. Most departing employees will provide honest feedback (what have they got to lose?)
    * Remember, according to Forbes "people leave managers, not companies"...
    * Good luck!

I have been working at GE full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If this could be a call a Pro...
Resources are very limited and you end up doing several other functions of what you should be doing... Hence you learn a lot of the other functions that help build your resume but be prepared for the long hours.

    Cons

    - 20% of the people do 80% of the work
    - all about who you know
    - not great work/family balance
    - be prepared to train your manager

    Advice to Management

Do not use the "bring fresh ideas" excuse to put people in leadership positions in which they have no idea about. Instead, promote leaders who come from the bottom and know the ins/outs of the businesses and understand what needs to get done internally to get to the next level.
