I worked at GEA Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed the time working for GEA, smart people, made great friends, good benefits, European mentality, Enjoyed working with colleagues around the world (specially Netherlands). Company with lots of potential, Great technology and resources. Had a bad experience at the end with a person however I still give the company 4 out of 5.

    Cons

Company changed customer focus to stock holder focus. Does not take care of their own employees (most valuable assets). Surviving environment. Lack of motivation. Lots of room for improvement.

    Advice to Management

A company’s most valuable asset is its employees. Do what ever it takes to keep talented people.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at GEA Group full-time

    Pros

There are some truly great people still left at GEA. The benefits are good with an above-par 401K match. Lots of flexibility and a decent amount of vacation time.

    Cons

Top heavy management that keeps getting shuffled around. Outside of Germany there is no longer much room to advance and it frequently feels as though non-Germans are treated as second class citizens. While they do promote from within, this is done almost exclusively by nomination which limits both the possible qualified candidates and means that those looking to expand into different roles are unable to do so.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. Talking about how you value diversity means nothing when the management of the company is anything but diverse. Operating in different countries does not automatically make you a diverse company. Invest in employee development and management and leadership skills in particular. There are too many upper managers that are just avoid difficult conversations rather than addressing problems. The leadership culture in general needs to drastically change to stop promoting favoritism. If you want your employee to believe they are valued then you need to show them they are valued.

I worked at GEA Group full-time

    Pros

Used to be a great company to work for, so maybe there's hope it gets back there, but even well after i have left, I've heard it's worse. At the time I left benefits were still top notch, but maybe that's coming to an end too, see below.

    Cons

Decided to consolidate, spent time/money to evaluate their employees, yet none of that was even considered when deciding who to let go. Appeared more of a front to the shareholders and employees and they really just removed people that were too old and/or had a high salary. The morale of the company was the worst I've ever been part of. I've heard and confirmed they took health care away from one location. Management plays favorites, there's no room or plan for growth, and no one is held accountable for their work. There is minimal/no HR/Finance/IT departments locally - everything is now outsourced. The CEO from Germany visited my location once, and did anything and everything to not be seen by the employees. Was escorted in and out for a meeting. Couldn't even say hello to the people that work for him.

    Advice to Management

Start putting focus back on the people that make the company work, or more good people will leave for greener pastures.
