I worked at GEICO full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good benefits, great training, supervisors and coaches are amazing, really sweet coworkers. Definitely a great place to work if you only care about the money/benefits and don't mind the extreme stressfulness of the job and no work/life balance.

    Cons

Call center environment, constant calls, not even a second to breathe/recover in between calls even if you have been getting yelled at by a customer for 45 minutes beforehand, constant micromanagement and goals that are really hard to attain.

I worked at GEICO full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

GEICO seems to understand that it has a problem retaining employees and tries to implement training to help employees remain. Within the offices there are events year round to build a positive, friendly atmosphere. Most supervisors try to motivate and encourage employee growth. The pay is outstanding though, and there is always an opportunity to get promoted. Remaining at any one position for six months to a year is... almost impossible when there are so many opportunities to get promoted or earn raises.

    Cons

GEICO is motivated largely by numbers and any one mistake can tank your numbers for an entire month. A month of "bad" numbers can diminish your promotion potential immediately for up to another year. If your supervisor or manager provides you with a difficult working environment, it is very difficult to remove yourself from that environment. The company is very much like high school, and some higher ups have more... connections than their underlings, so that they easily avoid repercussions when "uncomfortable situations" are reported. If you make the decision to leave GEICO (for mental health reasons, FMLA, maternity leave, etc.) and come back, the company will sandbag you for a year or longer. It doesn't matter if you apply for a lower pay grade or not and if you still hold onto great numbers, it is almost as though your employment has to be postponed to punish you for needing time away from the company. Work/life balance is also horrible because you are expected (not requested) to put aside family obligations, vacations, etc., for the sake of business goals.

    Advice to Management

When management is reported for causing an uncomfortable environment, don't move them to a different department. Stop sandbagging highly qualified employees because the ones who have been there for 15+ years will retire sooner rather than later and younger ones barely want to remain.
