    Pros

Great Company to work for, can work from home when needed. Potential to become a large player in the IP world.

    Cons

Current economic climate is pushing the company to make cuts in areas that are the bread and butter for revenue. This needs climate is uncertain as intimidating.

    I worked at GENBAND full-time

    Pros

Has very good community outreach program. Promotes a healthy outlook with simple health care incentive.

    Cons

Tendency towards moving development offshore to take advantage of cheaper labor. Entrenched Nortel management team, with short-sighted vision. Very $$$ focused, tight budgets, little opportunity for compensation improvement over time.

    Advice to Management

    Have a longer vision.

I have been working at GENBAND full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Top notch engineers who have been working in Telecom for many years. Many former Nortel folks who have experience/knowledge that cannot be recovered once gone. Strong customer focus. Competitive salaries (although no raises in last 5 years) yearly bonus that is not consistent. Good vacation policy and work environment.

    Cons

Since the merger, vacations being cut, 401k matching cut and key people being cut. So far all changes due to merger have made working at the new company (Ribbon Communications) worse. Some changes are understandable in any situation like this but when ALL changes negatively impact the workforce you start getting the sense that the ship is sinking...

    Advice to Management

Try to have at least one positive for employees as a result of the merger. “Hey at least you have a job” is not the best incentive in the current job market.

I have been working at GENBAND full-time

    Pros

Competitive benefits package with plenty of vacation time, managers are very helpful, rewards for high levels of contribution.

    Cons

Executives need to mingle with employees more and reassure top employees of satisfaction. Job roles are not always clear which does allow more freedom so this can be a pro or a con.

    Advice to Management

Continue to allow high performing employees to define their role in the company and allow plenty of feedback for growth. Provide reward choices to top employees.

I worked at GENBAND full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Peers were knowledgeable, nice and helpful. The work was varied allowing for people interaction as well as heads-down deep analysis of the data. Always plenty to get done.

    Cons

Off-shoring of technical work for save money. Would likely come out ahead to place all of development within a few close time zones than to spread it too far out. Distance and time delays lead to confusion of ownership.
