I worked at GENBAND full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Peers were knowledgeable, nice and helpful. The work was varied allowing for people interaction as well as heads-down deep analysis of the data. Always plenty to get done.

    Cons

Off-shoring of technical work for save money. Would likely come out ahead to place all of development within a few close time zones than to spread it too far out. Distance and time delays lead to confusion of ownership.

I worked at GENBAND (More than a year)

    Pros

Fully developed platform for existing legacy Nortel voice infrastructure compared to Cisco or Avaya.

    Cons

Limited options for UCaaS cloud offering nationally/internationally. Limited market share and brand name recognition.

    Advice to Management

    None at this time

I worked at GENBAND full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are still a good number of talented, committed, and very reliable folks on various GENBAND teams (who just run ragged until they burn out), and the company has (or at least had back when I was there), hosted a GENBAND day of service each year to the communities in which they operate - really great idea.

    Also, comp package was good.

    Cons

Despite the company attempting to reinvent itself, it is saddled with a significant legacy commitment, which continually pulls resources to the problem of the day, rather than thinking longer-term.

Also, there is a real issue in many parts with the "one neck to choke" culture hanging over many projects. Coupled with ridiculous constraints on projects, and a number of folks that simply refuse to acknowledge reality, this makes for a very challenging culture.

    Advice to Management

You have to take care of your people, and stop driving them like sled dogs - the relentless pressure, and complete inability to acknowledge when things go well, is a real killer for those that are truly committed to being the best they can be.

I have been working at GENBAND full-time

    Pros

There used to be a glimmer of hope and it's gone with the new management. Smart hard-working people in the rank and file. Telecommuting and flexibility to work during time off or in the weekend. Experienced group of hard-core old-timers keeps company afloat.

    Cons

Management seems disconnected from employees and industry. Cutting down on benefits. Business going down. Those that can are leaving. Very poor communication between management and employees. No work/life balance. Forget about moving up unless you know someone in management. Unrealistic project timelines. No salary increases for a very long time. Constant downsizing, outsourcing to non-USA and shrinking business. If you have this company on the radar think very well about working here.

    Advice to Management

Just sell and stop the torture to those who do the work

    Pros

Great Team Effort with in Marketing

    Cons

Laying off quite common and expected

    Advice to Management

Try to make use of the existing manpower and see the avenue for growth instead of laying off people, it gives a bad limelight to your company

I worked at GENBAND full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At one time was a respected company in a stable market with a bright future. A history of acquisitions built a strong, cohesive product portfolio.

    Cons

It's hard to understand what this company does today. New leadership seems to be looking to get rich quick and isn't interested in taking care of its customers or employees.

I have been working at GENBAND (More than a year)

    Pros

The company offers good benefits, and the opportunity to work from home. Most of the products are cutting edge technology.

    Cons

There seems to be a lack of communication between management and employees. There is very little opportunity for salary increases, only bonuses for target based company goals.

    Advice to Management

There seems to be a lack of value placed on employees that have many years of experience. Also, it seems like they take every opportunity they can to outsource labor.
