I have been working at GNC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Company Vehicle and Gas Card
    - Company provided laptop and phone
    - Great group of co-workers and employees
    - Company credit card for work related expenses means nothing comes out of your pocket
    - Significant pay increase from Store Manager to Regional Director

    Cons

    - Culture has taken a massive downturn: We live and breathe PRO Access. It is evident in the weekly customer complaint file as many complaints revolve around being 'scammed' into signed up or straight up being signed up for a PRO without customers knowledge
    - 6/7 day a week 2pm roll ups do nothing for success. Miss a mid day roll up and you are 'not doing your job' (this means on the weekend too, so don't go out and enjoy time with your family)
    - Abysmal training program across the board: No company funded training for Sales Associates or Store Managers. RSD training is non-existent
    - Store Clerical Budgets are a joke: 90% of stores run on single coverage
    - Turnover rate high at all levels: Turnover at SA and SM level are higher than industry averages. New RSDs every other.
      - the turnover is a result of the poor culture being developed at GNC.. it's no longer about our customers, but about forcing programs down the guests throats. If you're not, you will be terminated or have termination threatened from Sales Associates up to Regional Director
    - No work/life balance. You need to be at your company phone at all times

If you are an external candidate looking to join this company you should know that you may be better suited elsewhere. We don't pay store level associates or managers particularly well and at the multi unit level you will earn more managing a single big box retailer. While there are still glimmers of hope every once in a while, the trend is exceptionally negative.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate the way we lead our new kpi. We are falling back to what is regarded as "The old GNC" and as such we will be stuck in the same pattern. Encourage a work/life balance, stop leading through fear at all levels and the sales will buck the current trend.

The messaging is there from DVP and up, but the execution and culture are far from what you preach on the "GNC TV"

I worked at GNC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Great Sales experience
    -Can transfer to any store
    -Easy Job and hours
    -Good exposure to Nutrition industry
-The customers you get to help
-The challenge of being able to meet sales goals.
-Gnc has a lot of locations, and is a big corporation with opportunity.

    Cons

    -Terrible management
    -improper training
    -High Turnover
-Ridicoulus Sales Objectives I only achieved these be cause I was with GNC a long time and was really good. I am also a trainer and know my products.
-A company that sells and overpriced line of product, and has unqualified people selling it.
    - the people that work at GNC MERELY BECAUSE OF SALES OR RETAIL SKILLS.
-They don't get qualified health enthusiasts or anyone in there that actually know what their talking about.

    Advice to Management

With an honest review of company I had incredible managers and my RSD'S were incredible. I honestly didn't have problem with management I have a problem with some in store managers and GNC business model. The amount of hours allocated for part time training and what is expected of them is absolutely absurd. This is coming from an employee with years of experience, and that always met his goals. I never had the problem of reaching them, but even I know for part timers they are a little unrealistic. I think GNC should try harder to get better pricing, and better employees with less turnover. Getting more qualified employees and that know the product will sell itself.

I worked at GNC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great customers and great quality products... Many opportunities to be promoted and lots of on the job training! Truly a job where you essentially write your own paycheck based on the commission structure!

    Cons

Company does not appreciate its employees and does not appropriately reward their hard work and effort... I was ranked 15th out of 1000 employees in my region but never had any recognition whatsoever... definitely disappointing but still a job I enjoyed...

I have been working at GNC part-time

    Pros

You learn about nutrition or how it all effects the body. Help others.

    Cons

BBC cares more about pro access and shoving it down our throats rather then teaching employees how to help a customer. They care about us making a extra few dollars verses selling something to someone that will help them. And if we don't sell pro access they threaten your job or you get written up. This is the only job where at first it seemed fun. Then as time went on, I learned how GNC is only for its own good. They don't care about the employees or customers. They don't teach employees how to keep stores clean, organize, how to talk to people, or how to learn products. It's all about numbers and money. The turn over rate for GNC is so high because of their attuides. Most new employees don't even last for 30 days

    Advice to Management

Go back to the basics. And get training for yourselves because how you speak to employees will ruin this company.

    I worked at GNC full-time

    Pros

In store personnel care more about the company than upper management and therefore are knowledgeable and caring. Decent employee discount.

    Cons

Current leadership is in disarray and seems more focused on themselves with little regard to employees or customers. Too heavily focused on pushing products and not on what is right for the customer.

    Advice to Management

Get the focus back on customers and those on the front lines.
