I have been working at GNC part-time

    Pros

It's easy work since it is a small store. A lot of the customers are interesting people. I have learned a lot about supplements and nutrition.

    Cons

Snake oil salesmen in every sense of the word. Corporate pressure to sell GNC Brand products and Pro Access memberships, even to a old lady that is just coming for $3 vitamins. Manager at my store is hyper and pushy, as well as being a bit of a gossip. She shows no respect for the people who work under her. This company has no ethics whatsoever. They want you to work off the clock, try to sell things to customers that they do not want, and lie to them that an overpriced GNC product is better than a third party brand. Due to high pressure sales along with the minimum wage pay, there is constant turnover. You are expected to hover over the customers, who really just want to be left alone. If you do not want your ethics or principles compromised, do not work here.

    Advice to Management

Stop being deceitful with your sales tactics, as well as the constant push to get people to sign up for Pro Access.

I have been working at GNC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Helping people live healthier lives. Some of the success stories in turning someone's health around and leading to better quality of life is very rewarding.

    Cons

High pressure sales and goals can be unrealistic. Higher corporate management usually won't listen to store employee advise on how to improve.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like real people. Don't go in always thinking you know best.

I have been working at GNC part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have an Awesome manager only reason why I stay with this company. My manager is literally a great boss, great friend, someone I can look up too and ask for advice inside and outside of work. He's just a solid guy overall. I learn a lot, flexible schedule, I'm a better people person now. I've learned a lot on sales techniques.

    Cons

Cons where to begin. I've been with the company for a couple years. A ton of changes have occurred. This new big push for Pro Access has been a huge flop. I go onto Sunday conference calls. They tell me to sell one, and first person who does wins a free lunch. I earned about three free lunches so far from "ssm's" and never got one of them. I always get told I'm going to win something or get something but I never do. Like if you want me to do something I'll do it, but don't tell me do something and I'll win a product for free. Then I'll never get the product. Makes me not want to try. This company is changing sometimes for the better but still it's poorly ran.

    Advice to Management

You can expect me to do something for 7.25 a hour. Sure unmake commission, but you expect me to do shipment, sell your $40 memberships, clean mop sweep, move shelves, deal with constant text messages on how I can sell more pro access than you. There's a lot of negative reinforcement with this company from upper management which is quite frankly terrible. Gnc wonders why there turnover is so terrible. Wake up, treat your employees better. You want great sales people to stick around? Treat them better.
