    I worked at GNC part-time

    Pros

Working in the health industry is great. They are a recognized brand

    Cons

Little to no training. Compensation was terrible. Quotas on signing people up for a gold card were unrealistic with the low flow of traffic into the store.

I have been working at GNC part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a great atmosphere. Talking to customers, and learning more about the products is great, and then teaching it to others is better.

    Cons

Management is not very well managed. More often we were understaffed, and no discipline actions were taken. Management would often lose things and blame it on other employees, hog sales, down play your role at the store to customers. Interupt customers, tell customers they were busy and had to leave the store because she didn't want to deal with them, even after they had made a purchase from the store. They say they will work with your schedule but they won't. Don't bother for asking for a day off for medical appointments, dentistry, or beutician appointments even for months in advanced, because "She can never work that far out."

    Advice to Management

Work with your workers. Hire managers that know what they are doing. They need to be more organized. Rather than let tasks, trash and more things pile up.

    I worked at GNC full-time

    Pros

The pay is decent when you work a busy store.

    Cons

    1. The pressure to get everything done can become very overwhelming. The time table to do a promo change can be stressful because of the constant revisions that happen.
    2. When you have a Corporate Visit, they do everything to find a way to make you feel like you doing everything wrong. They did this in front of your own team which greatly effects your ability to lead those team members.
    3. No overtime is allowed. Luckily with 15 years experience, I didnt have to work OFF THE CLOCK which seems to be what the newer managers would do to get the job done.
    4. To many wasteful conference calls, info would be better suited for memos. The time constraints for Managers could be lesson if the company would leave conference calls for more important info.
    5. To many promises left unfulfilled. We were promised that the constant price changing would stop as new promos would phase this practice out but as of late from what I heard that has not happen.
    6. RSD position should not be off on the weekends. Managers are required to work weekends so should the RSD. This is when the stores are busy so it makes sense.
    7. Vacation pay doesnt include average weekly commission so it is hard to take a week off when you only get base pay. I lost weeks of vacation each year because I couldn't afford to lose the commission.
    8. Corporate office needs to police what the DSDs are projecting as standards of their KPI goals. The DSDs tend to up the stakes of what is expected because they wanted to be number 1.
    9. The company needs to look at compensating managers at the smaller volume stores differently so they can even the pay better for them. They work just as hard but managers in those stores tend to leave because of they pay.
    10. Customers want help but are put off with the high pressure sales techniques that sales associates use to achieve excessively high goals set by upper management.

    Advice to Management

I was with the company for 15 years with 14 of those years in the Senior Store Manager position. If I was a DSD or higher, I would be looking into the Louisville Region. There is a very good reason as to why long term managers are leaving. Some of those managers have open their own competing stores that are taking away a lot of business from GNC.

    Pros

Great job. You work independent. Customers are mostly pleasant and fun to help.

    Cons

Store management and regional management are incompetent of doing there jobs. Training is very poor. Questions and rule are never in black and white.

    Advice to Management

Train as corporate not the uneducated store management that you employee. Start using carmeras in your stores to keep inventory uncontrol so you can pay more than minimum wage. Internal theft is a serious issue in this company due to store management and senior store management.
